having same sensor as f3 would be unlikely.
i wonder what else will this cam have? i looks just like a box with inputs at the back.
S35 is the new standard? Sony announces some cameras and that is now the standard? That seems a bit presumptuous. I doubt Canon will come out with an S35 size sensor. And Panny has fought the 1/3" vs 1/2" battle before. I wager strongly that Panasonic will stay with the 4/3s standard. Too many benefits for them in it!The RED approach also shoots in something very close to RAW, which will not be imitated very soon. However, it is very clear to me that S35 will become the new standard. DSLR's have raised that expectation. I think Panasonic will have to respond to this within a year of the release of the AGF100. If they come to market with a big brother it will be obviously more expensive. I don't think Sony is responding to what is currently in the offing from Panasonic, I think they are anticipating the next generation. For me this means the NXCAM camera will probably be around the 9-11K mark. I see them as positioning it where the bigger style ENG cameras price point was during the HVX200 heyday.

They already have. It's called the 7D or ASP-C. 22.2 x 14.8
Close enough.
Sensors around this size will be the new standard, like it or not. It's not going to be 4/3" or the FF of the 5D MII that's for sure. This isn't just about Sony or Canon. It's about having a standard that close enough to something like 3 perf 35mm that everything from PL mount motion picture lenses to still photo can be used without screwing around too much with multiplying their focal lengths.
It's the happy medium.
yup its an emount so for those interested this is a great alternative to the af100. get an alpha to e mount then buy a tokina 11-16 with alpha mountI wonder if the lens is included. It that the same lens from the VG-10?
If someone came out with a camera with a S-35 camera that shot Log-C at a price lower than RED I would personally not miss RAW.

Thats the dream...please come true.![]()
While there is little information provided on either sensor, if its a S35 sensor its more likely related to the F3 then a dSLR. A S35 format has little to no relevance to still photography, and its very unlikely that Sony will be making two completly bespoke CMOS s35 sensors. From a fabrication standpoint there should be no significant difference in cost between an F3 sensor and this NXCAM (since its likely an Exmor of identical size). The real cost is in development and testing. It seems to me that Sony is going to use this lower-end camera to meet economies-of-scale for their $16k F3. There is clearly going to be some degree of specification differences between the F3 sensor and this NXCAM, and Sony having a lot of vertical sensor infrastructure in-house allows them to have a lot more flexibility with the variations they can introduce between sensors, however the logical move for Sony would be to share as much of the underlying technology and design between their S35 sensors as they can.
.
I'm confused as to why this would steal thunder from Panasonic.......the Panny is a $4700 camera, this sony is a $10k camera.
