New Sony FS E-mount 4K camcorder to be announced at IBC

Thanks, instead at 200p and 100p (PAL) how many seconds you will be shoot before stops, and how the playback at 25p would be in seconds?

In PAL it works the same as in NTSC - in PAL 200fps is limited to 8 seconds burst , and since 200fps is 8 x 25fps , you get 64 seconds or about a minute of slow-mo in real time. You still record only 8 seconds, but at 25p it is played out for 64 seconds real time. in 100fps at 1080 the recording is continuous so you are limited as per your card size.

Is 180FPS continuous available also for FS5?

You can't do 180fps on the FS5 continuous internally on the SD cards. As per the specs of the FS5 i can only see 1080p/50 continuous in PAL. However, as per the RX10 II , if the slow motion on the FS5 works the same way , there should be a 100fps at 1080p continuous.

However, once the Raw update comes out (whenever that is, and it won't be soon) then my guess is 2K/240fps continuous Raw on Odyssey7Q+ and 1080p 240 Prores continuous

It would be better if at least 100p is continuous as RX10 II, not a big fan of bursted slow-motion, I wonder where we could have a solid confirm to that (100p continuous) for FS5

Continuos slomo of whatever possible would be great.
I really wish XAVC-S was an option. -L is going to require transcoding from vegas before I can use it in CS6, and that's if vegas can handle it. Not excited about that at all

The FS5 cannot shoot continuous at 100p or 120p even in HD resolution. The limitation is due to the recording onto SD cards, which cannot reliably handle data rate faster. This cannot be "hacked" with faster cards, the architecture is designed around high frame rates going utilizing the buffer.

RAW will be another story. But that will come later when Sony announces future option details.

Thanks for the info Mitch, this is rather puzzling though - as my RX10 II can handle 1080p/120 continuous onto SD cards in XAVC-S just fine... strange world

Very nice review from Alister Chapman. It answers a few of the questions that have been floating around. Interesting that it has a LUT to correct slog, and that it does correct the distortion on the kit lens. More info about the ND filter, too.

What is the bitrate of the RX10's XAVC-S? I imagine its lower than the FS5's top internal recording setting which the cards would have to be qualified for.

I think the RX10Mk2 and the FS5 have the same max of 100Mbps recording on to SDXC cards recommended UHS U3 cards just like my FDR-AX100

Its XAVC-S 100Mb/s 8 bit 420 at 100Mb/s at up to 30p in 4K, in HD its 50Mb/s - same as in the A7R II and the upcoming A7s II.

Both XAVC-S and L are 50Mb/s VBR in 50/60p and above in Full HD.

I was able to ask a question to Alister Chapman via Facebook about waveform monitors on the FS5. Chapman was able to shoot with an FS5 recently. He said he did not see a waveform monitor option on the camera, but he did use a pre-production model. It does have a histogram.

He has since posted that he has learned there is a WFM on the shipping product.

Just to clarify some information that I posted yesterday on this thread. Initial reports said there was not a Waveform Monitor on the FS5 - which worried me a little as I use the WFM on my C100 and Ninja Blade a lot. Well, this hands-on article says the FS5 does have a WFM - thank goodness! It has some other interesting information/impressions about the camera too.

I contacted Alister directly and he said he did NOT make such a statement. He will try to check and see if there will be a WFM on the production models.
The Redshark review you linked to (not Alister's review) says they had one one their Pre-pro demo model, so we'll see which is correct.

I totally accept that you had a productive private communication with Alister.

The quote I gave was a post by Andy Wilkenson, not Alister, on another well known video blog forum. I did not give the link because it competes with DVXuser And I did not want drive traffic away from this great resource.

And yes we will see what is in the final shipping version. I didn't see it in the FS700 in the few moments I had to play with it. That does not bode well for a 4k 4:2:0 codec that has to be properly exposed due to less latitude in post. Still the FS5 should be a good HD camera with a forgiving HD codec.

I look upon the FS5 as the HD camera of my dreams, not a 4k production camera. Nexcept
that I like to ride the WFM as I shoot.
