FS7: New Sony F7 XDCAM 4K Super 35mm Camcorder

Lots of misinformation about the Metabones adapter in this thread...

The Metabones adapter works with SOME lenses but not ALL.

None of the 85mm 1.2, 50mm 1.2 and 35mm 1.4 work at all. They just sit on wide open and refuse to move. My 24mm 1.4 works as do my 16-36, 24-70 and 70-200.

I've tried updating the software, but nothing happens, it doesn't seem to recognise the metabones adapter when I attach the lens via a usb cable. Not sure if there was a proprietary cable that came with the adapter of if any micro usb cable should work.

I thought it was just because they wanted to emulate film shooting, started with the F23 and F35, hence no WB and Gain?

I gave the technical reason in Lenny's response why WB wasn't possible in the CineEI mode, but yes your explanation is also correct.

Looking at just the pure essence of the CineEI mode one of the main drivers behind having a CineEI mode on any camera is 1.) emulating the process of shooting on film, and 2.) record images from the sensor in the most unadulterated manner possible ie. without any further processing since it will go through the post production workflow process.

But the problem is that some people who are happy to shoot in custom mode are looking for a few features that are available in CineEI mode - like LUTs. I should be able to work in custom mode where I can actually use the ISO to adjust my gain, white balance, and then throw a LUT on top of it for monitoring - with the option of baking in the look if you really want to. In CineEI mode you are stuck shooting with the native ISO of the camera, you have LUTs, but no white balance.

On a side note oddly enough on the Sony F3 using the slog picture profile it was possible to dial in a color temperature if I remember correctly. Somewhat ironic since with the paid RGB slog version you could not do this and had preset to work with. :S

Re Philip Bloom: Yeah I saw that. To be honest I'm impressed his didn't come direct from Sony.

I've put in a formal request to the moderators of DVX to have a new FS7 section created using suggestions made by other members in the FS7 category thread.

Then all the FS7 related posts can be moved there, and this specific thread probably closed since originally it was about the new camera and information on it shipping, and now that shipping has started its turned into other relevant discussion but somewhat a tangent from the original post.

With one giant thread users aren't able to share anything very well when there are 5 discussions going on simultaneously.

Hopefully everyone agrees, cheers,

Second that.

Does anyone have measurements for the camera in terms of width and length with the eyepiece and handgrip? And height with the handle? Just trying to size out a bag that could fit the camera fully assembled...

Thanks! Does anyone know how EF lenses work with the E to EF Mark IV (non-speedbooster)?

Yesterday I tried to put this on the DJI Ronin and it was nearly impossible. Even with a pancake lens, the handle disassembled, and a BP-U30 battery, it was really hard to get this camera to balance on the gimbal without it's long body dropping forward, back, or side to side. Anyone else who achieves this is an absolute winner in my book!

Even with the quirks I can't wait to get my FS7 in my hands. Maybe by the time they get to Canada the bugs will be worked out.

I'm looking forward to this camera system returning its money many times over the next couple years. I feel there is a plateau in image quality. 14stops & UHD will do me plenty well.
