FS7: New Sony F7 XDCAM 4K Super 35mm Camcorder

downloaded it. looks great and grades nicely. Played nice with the vision colour IMPULZ slog3 luts. correcting the white balance on the clip of the girl was all painless and looked great too. Am now genuinely extra excited.

Ben, Do you use those LUT's much. How do they compare to the standard Sony LUT's . Can those be loaded into the FS7?

I'm afraid I have no idea what can be loaded into the FS7 as I've not directly worked with a Sony video camera in years and have all that fun to look forward to.

As for the LUTs themselves assuming your footage falls within the vague exposure range that the LUT expects then they can serve as a great base.

No idea if possible but could you load in some film stock luts that you liked and have some go to film stocks in the filed for quick turn around or quick grading in post.

Impressed so far by the quick tests I've done. I'm off at the weekend on a 14 day shoot around the US, so I've not got too long to work it all out, but to be fair, it's seems pretty straightforward,

I found a very frustrating quirk that I'm still trying to figure out. I can't seem to get my histogram or waveform monitor to work even if it's enabled. This goes for both 1080 and UHD. It worked for a second when I enabled it on 1080 and then switched to UHD, but then my screen froze!! Overlays and menu still worked but the picture was completely static. Changed the battery and XQD card but it was still frozen. I changed the mode back to 1080 and then I got a real time picture again, BUT my histogram and waveform will not work at all even if enabled in the menus. Very frustrating and I'm waiting for a response from the technical engineer at Sony.

F5/55 has similar quirks with displaying the waveform or histogram. Does the F7s have a toggle on/off display button the outside of the camera or viewfinder? Also try an all reset if you can't get it back.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dennis.

I did the reset and it still grays out that option. The gentleman from Sony did the same thing I did step by step over the phone and it happened to him too! This is very disappointing since I usually don't use a light meter and sometimes don't have time to do that during run-and-gun situations. Hopefully Sony gets back to me soon so I can nail my exposure right in camera. For now I'll have to trust the viewfinder or an external monitor.

Try switching off the VF mLUT.

My mLUT has always been off but this actually led me to the right sub-menu! I had to change the Video/Category/ to Look Profile instead of LUT. Then I changed the Look Profile Select to Cine+709 and the histogram came back. Not sure what the difference between Look Profile and regular LUT is in the Category section but it works :)

*UPDATE* Histogram disabled on it's own again...

Cinemasteve87 I came to this thread to post this same question. I can't for the life of me get the Histogram option to even turn on. The Video Signal Monitor isn't select able. I to use the histogram a lot to judge exposure.

Hmmm I have one on pre order with CVP UK. That sounds a bummer about the histogram which i also use a lot on the F3. Does the FS7 have a centre spot meter like the F3 which again I find is a very useful tool?

Sony os rolling out here in europe/germany too.
Mine is coming on monday together with one 128GB G-card.
Still not decided for batteries.

Anybody tried the new Swits (SWIT S-8U63)?

As for R+G lenses, I still have the old Sony 18-200. Optically it's a nice lens
with the welcome addition of the image stabilizer and it's active mode. But I really
hate the by wire focus and the very slow end of f6.3.
I still decide between the Canon 24-105/4L or one of the longer lenses.
I have seen the new Tamron 28-300/3.5-6,3, which is build nicely with a relative
long focus throw of approx. 90 degrees. It's very lightweight and sharp without
mild distortion. This one would come in handy on the speedbooster.

The new Swits work fine Erik.

**Some lenses play nicely with the the Metabones, some don't:

Canon 85mm 1.2L doesn't work. Just stays wide open.

Canon 50mm 1.2L doesn't work. Just stays wide open.

Canon 35mm 1.4L doesn't work. Just stays wide open.

Canon 24mm 1.4L works great.

Canon 20mm 2.8 works great.

Canon 70-20mm 2.8L IS works great.

Canon 24-70mm 2.8 IS works great.

Canon 16-35mm 2.8L works great.

Even if I set an aperture on my 5D3 then mount it on the Metabones it changes it to wide open on the 85mm/50mm/35mm. If I work the dial really hard I can get a couple of the lenses to f/1.4. That will have to do for now unless anyone has a bright idea.

On my FS100 with Metabone adapter I could use all Canon lenses so it should work on the FS7.
I used Canon 16-35L, 24-70L, 24-105L, 70-200/2.8IS II, 100-400L, 24/1.4II, 35/1.4L, 50/1.2L, 85/1.2IIL and 17-55/2.8 and all of them worked.

It makes very little sense if Sony changed the E-mount protocol.

@Liam: Did you use the new Swits without the DC-in of the FS7?
