FS7: New Sony F7 XDCAM 4K Super 35mm Camcorder

Does anyone know if it will have the firmware to deal with the distortion that dogs the Sony 18-105 F4 lens when used with the FS700? I hope so because that 18-105 seems like a useful RNG lens for the FS7 a sort of poor man's cabrio.

Yes, it does correct.
I'm also interested in the Sony power zoom 18-200. I wonder if it can do 4K? That would be a very handy lens until the big zoom comes out.

The FS7 will correct the 18-105 F4 but only in HD and only up to 60fps. That's directly from Juan Martinez, who also says its a very good lens when corrected and it will not be a drag on camera battery .
I agree it will be very handy and for only $600 I'll get it just for HD.
I wonder if it also corrects for longitudinal CA which all these still lenses have. That could make it stellar. I'm not sure about the 18-200 I think it will probably do 4K as i don't think it requires any correction.

Why can't the full cam/lens kit ship in Oct/Nov....? I've no glass that will work on the FS7.

If you have Nikon or Canon glass consider a Metabones adapter. If your lenses or most of them are designed for APS-C cameras just get a standard (non-speedbooster) Metabones adapter. They are inexpensive and work well.

Has anyone here tried the Speed booster Ultra ? Any better than the old model.
Also any thoughts on using Nikon lenses into a Nikon > Canon EF adapter and then that into EF > Emount adapter either speed booster or normal adapter.
Since I have all nikon glass I think I will start that way then start replacing with EF glass.

Don't see any reason why using Nikon via EF adapter onto EF Speed Booster wouldn't work.
I've never used these speed boosters, just heard people talk about them - what does it mean on the Metabones site when under the Ultra it talks about increasing the MTF? As in makes it sharper? Really?

Nikon G adapters - very common and cheap - will grab any nikon iris mechanically and allow adjustment without stops including lenses that appear to have no mechanical iris. Quite nice. you don't know what the f stop is though .It is the cool thing about using Nikon glass. The uncool thing is that consequently no one bothers to make a nIkon adapter with power so you can't activate lens stabilization.

It's worth trying these G adapters to see how you like them - I tried one once and found the iris operation really fiddly.
Other uncool thing is that Nikons focus in the opposite direction to Canon and cinema and broadcast lenses.

true , some more fiddly than others. I plan to switch over to Ef lenses eventually. Wasn't wondering about the pros and cons of Nikon glass though I own them, already and use on F3. Just wondering if anyone has tried them on an EF to E mt adapter. sounds like it should be fine but I'm wondering if there are any surprise gotcha's.

I own huge collection of Nikon prime lenses as well as Nikon mount zooms. I use them primarily on my F55, but I also shoot a lot of projects on EOS cameras and lenses pulling my own focus and find I have no problems focusing either way, switching back and forth, etc..

I really wouldn't call reverse focus a big deal, plus if it really is you can always get a FF unit that switches it back to the rotation you are use to.

I didn't realize the 18-105 is a constant f4 zoom. This makes it even more desirable. The 18-200 loses several f-stops through its zoom range.

I found focusing with a Nikon glass more logical than PL and EF glass. When a subject moves towards me I will track it with a FF towards me and vice versa.

That is true actually - it's just what you get used to though I think - and if you're so used to going one way after using Zeiss, Angenieux, Cooke, Canon etc. it becomes second nature and hard to switch.

I thought it was a fun and lighthearted trailer to watch. The guy who shot it did a really good job protecting the highlights since the Cion doesn't have the same latitude or log modes as the Sony's. I really loved the colors too. I just wish Sony took the time to do a narrative promo for the FS7 like they did for the F55! Can't wait to start shooting with mine.
