FS7: New Sony F7 XDCAM 4K Super 35mm Camcorder

Ned this is for shipping of the FS7? No longer an October ship date? Thanks

I was told when it was first announced that Canada would be early Nov. I'm hoping that date still holds as I have a few project in Dec and want work up time with the new camera.

Late Oct-early Nov is virtually the same time frame. There is ship date. Sony could choose to ship containers via air or sea. Then to Sony warehouse and from there to dealers. But whatever it might me, there is nothing so far to suggest that the camera will be delayed. Of course, those of us awaiting the kit will wait longer.

I opted to not get the kit and get the camera in my hands seeing as there was no discount for including the kit lens in a package.

I have an email form my dealer stating 20th Oct 'onwards' for delivery. I've ordered body only. The deals with the lens will ship later.

Do you have a pre-order from Abel? I am not certain how long their list is but I know I am close to top for kit.

Yes, I believe the camera was announced on a Thursday and my pre-order was in the next day - maybe Friday AM! All I needed was Adam Wilt's review. FS7 hit all my buttons. I was a little concerned because they said it was only refundable as store credit but all doubts have been removed by now - largely thanks to this forum actually. The internet is an amazing thing.

Anyone know whether it comes with a free Metabones EF adapter (not speed booster) like the FS700?
It was included on that 21 slide presentation for the FS7 that Adam Wilt or someone posted.

Also what about XQD cards? Are "S " cards the right kind. There is also G but they are more expensive and don't seem to even be available yet .

No word about inclusion of Metabones adapter but I highly doubt it. The SpeedBooster was bundled with the FS700 to boost sales and at first Sony will sell all the FS7's they can make. Who knows what will happen after product euphoria has worn off.

The S cards are adequate. The advantage of the G cards is higher data transfer rates when offloading media. I'll start off with S cards and see where it goes.

Ned

S cards are 180MB/s which is 1440Mbps. 4K XAVC @ 60p in 4096x2160 is only 600Mbps. So the S cards are more than adequate, as Ned mentioned the big advantage to "faster" cards are the offloading time.

A 64GB card using USB3 takes about 12-15 minutes to off load, about 30 minutes of 4K footage at 24p.

I'm mainly looking forward to the bigger card size to get more minutes of storage.

Me too.

As I checked prices, the difference between S and G cards are not that big.
64 GB is not big enough for me anyway so that I'll start with one 128GB G card
instead of 2x64GB S card.
But let's wait how the prizes will be, once the camera is available.

Some dealers here in germany say: october 23rd

My dealer already said that I need to wait until december even if it's body only...

Yep.

If you mean the Sigma 18-35/1,8 ART - it's a APS-C lens and will
show some kind of vignette with a speedbooster on the FS7 in theory.

As I haven't tried that out, I don't know if this is true in practice, too...

I've used the 18-35 f1.8 on the speedbooster and it hard vignettes from 18-24mm, and has soft vignetting from 24-35mm with the least vignetting from 28-35mm. I've used it fron 24-35mm with pretty good results but do expect darkish corners. Not bad if you want a 16-24mm f1.3 zoom.

Noah,
I assume you've used the speed booster with Full Frame lenses (like it was meant for) as well. What's your opinion? How much sharpness or any other quality do you lose.
I gather that some lenses behave better than others. Is it sharp enough that you fell you would get similar quality using speed booster or using a standard EF to E mt adapter (APS-C to APS-C)? How about the new "Ultra"?
