FS7: New Sony F7 XDCAM 4K Super 35mm Camcorder

This is how I see it too. F65, F35, F23, Alexa, Epic, Genesis high end. F55, F5, C500 etc mid range. Rest low end.

Just because the F55 is used in studio films and TV doesn't make it high end. House used a 7D for an episode right? Is the 7D high end?

The sensor, color science and format capability in the F55 make it high end and as a result of that it is used every week on network shows like The Black List. It's not a fun experiment like using a DSLR on House was

Thanks Mitch,

I agree you have to see it to realize how much better the FS700 4K2HD picture is than even the F3's before recording.
Does the 7Q method also provide a higher MTF than the F5's downconvert to XAVC or is that closer because its not as compressed as XDCAM EX?
I must admit that I have not directly compared them.

I regard 1080p from the F3 extremely high. Nothing added just good resolved 1080. It's the beauty from the 3.45MP sensor, start downscaling from more pixels needed and artefacts will occur.

This not true. F35 has 6K sensor and makes better 1080p than F3.

Some interesting things in that. Woman goes green, then blue, the backlit trees have the thermo nuclear look

Not quite as bad as Dennies but still all a bit Z1

Given, my personal opinion is that Canon, in general, has better color science than Sony. That said...I'm looking at these images and think'n "heck yea I can work with that." I am definitely liking the potential of the FS7.

I really reeeeaallly wanted to love the A7s. After seeing exactly what that camera is...I just couldn't do it. At the time I was thinking I would prefer to spend more and really get something that makes up for some of the oddities. So far, the FS7 is fitting the bill.
Yea, its probably not perfect and some quirks will sneak up on us....but getting this quality of image, codec, frame rates, and resolution in this type of form factor is really hard to ignore.

Oh....sorry if this has been covered, I can't remember the answer at the moment. Does any one have a solid idea with the usable dynamic range is on the FS7?

That would be lovely. I think the C300 is 12.5 stops. 14 would definitely be a deal sealer. At that point I would have a hard time seeing the benefit of a C300 over this camera.

Liam

Did you get to Pinewood I might go a future week.

S

No. I've been hand-cuffed to my edit machine. I would have gone if If I'd got this edit finished. There's another one next week, but deliveries from Sony are supposed to start on the 15th, so depending on when mine is due I may give that at miss too.

Also...with the new Metabones Speedbooster Ulta...it would be really nice to have an extra stop of light, an effective FF camera...plus all of the things the FS7 brings to the table (12 bit raw output...ect). That sounds pretty sweet.

With all this beautiful artistic footage coming in, I think I would learn the most from a simple shot of someone backlit on a sunny day with overexposed sky and landscape behind them and some dark undergrowth below trees on one side. That's it .

Hey....quick question about the Ef to E Speedbooster Ultra. So, if I were to use the Sigma 16-35 1.8, which is an APS-C size lens with the speed booster ultra on the FS7...which is effectively alters the FOV to become FF...then does that mean the Sigma will not work?

Sorry if this is elementary...I have not had a need for a speed booster or adapter in the past.
