GH5 New smallHD firmware

I just installed smallHD's OS3 firmware for all smallHD monitors including the Focus. New is auto calibration of the monitor with xrite's puck, ability to set white point, customization of false color ranges and color, spot metering in luma waveform and ability to accept 4k video up to 30 fps rather than down resize to 1080 . I noticed a great upgrade in that the battery condition is now displayed as a % rather than the voltage . I haven't had a chance to try out all the new features so no comment on the implementation of these new features.

I emailed about the battery status a while ago and they confirmed a week back there was an update coming. Didn't know it would be this soon and as full featured as it is.

I happen to have an old x-rite i1 display calibration tool, so I called to see if I could get a USB adapter and get it to work. They said they are working directly with x-rite to have them communicate but this could be for the auto-calibration menu to pop up. I have an adapter I'm going to try later and see if it works. Crossing my fingers as I'd love to finally have a more accurate display but it's possible they won't communicate still.

Updated my FOCUS and all went well. I also like the new battery meter and that it lights up in red telling me when the battery is about to go empty. Nice to be able to set my own false colours also. And 2160p from Sonys FS5 worked fine also.

I will do the update on my 702 later today and hope all goes well.

Okay just did the FW update on my 702 Bright and to my surprise SmallHD have actually fixed a serious flaw when used with a Sony FS7.

Before this FW update and when I recorded in 1080p the SDI/HDMI output couldn't be properly de-interlaced resulting in a shaky image. This was seen mostly while zooming in to check focus. But with the new OS apparently it's fixed! No more shake instead just a good image.

So far it looks to be an excellent OS update.

Had to order a USB A to Micro USB adapter from Amazon, it arrived today and I can confirm that a i1 x-rite device does not work with such an adapter. Apparently SmallHD and their work directly with x-rite make the unit they sell for $299 compatible. I do hope in the future they release an update that will allow the original to work as it makes no sense to buy another. The only gripe I have with the Focus is the color accuracy/luminance. Solid piece of kit though.

Just got an answer from SmallHD.
Our auto calibration software will only work with the OEM version of the x-rite probe. X-rite doesn't allow the standard i1 to talk to third party software unfortunately.
So no calibration unless i buy the probe from Smallhd.
