NEW SmallHD 5.6 inch 720p monitor

Preorder

Preorder

Yesterday I through in my preorder on the smallhd DPSLR $899. Its more expensive than what I wanted to spend but a good field monitor will help tune in better footage on site.

Sucks that I have to wait a month to get it but im sure it will be worth the wait. Reading what others posted about viewing it at the NAB show it seems to be a great monitor.

Anyone else do the preorder?

Thanks,
Chris

I pre ordered it right after NAB. I got the hd-sdi/hdmi version so that I can use it on both my 7d as well as the Hpx500.

I hope they add a lot of the Marshall-like tools to judge exposure and focus. I mentioned this to them @ NAB and they just nodded and sighed. I could tell that a lot of other people had asked them the same thing.

Focus in Red like the Panasonic monitors have.

The best feature is their predator-vision false-color exposure scale:

Got an email today from SmallHD , I guess there will be some sorta of focus assist software in the monitor. I hope it works good. Read below....

First off, we'd like to inform you that we're still on track to meet the August 31 ship date for the DP-SLR.

Secondly, we'd like to announce that our new website containing all sorts of accessories will be launching sometime this Friday (August 13, 2010), and we will be sending you an email with a link as soon as it is ready. (Scroll down to see a complete list of accessories that will be available).

Thirdly, we've made a minor name change to the DP-SLR. It will now be referred to as the DP6.

The "6" represents the screen size of the monitor (rounded to the closest whole number). Additionally, since there are 2 versions of the product (one with HD-SDI, and one without), the 2 different models are as follows:

  • DP6-SDI (the one with HD-SDI)
  • DP6-SLR (the one without HD-SDI)

...A pretty simple change overall. We hope it makes sense as we plan to implement this naming convention on future SmallHD displays.

Now for the finalized list of accessories you'll see on SmallHD's new website Friday, August 13...

Finally, we're happy to announce that each DP6 will be shipping with firmware containing a highly accurate Focus Assist (or "Peaking") filter that truly broke the grade curve when tested against competing monitors. This new filter combined with the unmatched resolution of the DP6 literally gives you no excuse to be out of focus. More information about this filter will be released on our website between now and August 31 via video demonstration.

Does anyone know the process for adding accessories and shipment to a pre-order? I made my pre-order at the beginning of August with their old site. Do you just add accessories and shipment to your cart under the new store and SmallHD will link that to your pre-order for the monitor? I didn't have to create an account with my pre-order.

Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter?

I am very close to ordering the SmallHD DP6. But I am wondering about the size. I will be using it on a shoulder rig. What I need to know: is a 7" monitor like the Ikan VX7 with less resolution 1024 x 600 better for focusing than a 5.6' monitor with more resolution? I would rather go with the smaller for the weight.

I have the SmallHD DP1x and I am very happy with it. I use it on a tripod - too big for shoulder mount.

As I read this, the SmallHD offers more in terms of focus enhancement. What are your thoughts. Frustrating I am not seeing too many first-hand experiences on the SmallHD.

The only thing - I am not using it with a DSLR. I have a Canon XHA1s HDV camcorder.

I am pretty happy with my DP1x. I am seriously considering the DP6 for my shoulder rig. I originally went for a 7", but the resolution was just not there at 1024x600.

I might be mis-interpreting but are you saying the new smallHD 5.6" monitor has predator vision?

I thought it was a smaller version of their dp1x, no added functionality

Before preordering I told SmallHD I used to love Marshall's usefull false color and asked if they intended to implement it on the smaller LCD.
Here is the answer (was May). Then I preordered..

"That feature will be party of our DP-SLR.* We will be adding it to a redesigned version of the DP1 which we are targeting for release by the end of the; perhaps more realistically at the start of next year.

Regards,
SmallHD Team"

The FSI 7" already has the "false color" feature and focus assist. When I saw the Small monitor at NAB, I was gonna order it but glad I didn't. I'd still be waiting. They were promising a June delivery at the time.
Glad I went with FSI!

FSI certainly makes awesome HD-SDI monitors, but they don't have HDMI in, or am I wrong?

SmallHD email : Update on Shipping and Vid of the Peak Focus Assist:

We are on schedule to ship DP6-SLR units by August 31.

However, a few of our vendors have experienced unforeseen slowdowns in production lines and shipping schedules that may cause delays regarding your order.

Specifically, the brand-new processor for the DP6-SDI's HD-SDI board took 7 weeks for shipment rather than its usual 4, making final delivery times for the circuitry much tighter than desired. Up until the past few days, we believed we could still make the August 31 deadline, but with the sudden addition of shipping delays on the final circuitry to our warehouse, we have been forced to revise our shipping schedule for this product. The DP6-SDI is now expected to ship out by September 15 rather than August 31.

Similarly, two large accessory shipments have hit slow-downs on the way to our dock, and therefore have revised ship dates as well:

Acrylic Screen Protector: Ships by September 7
HDMI Loop-Through Splitter: Ships by September 7

If your order contains any of these three (3) products, the ship date for your order will be based on the latest scheduled ship date among them.

(For example, an order containing a DP6-SLR and the Acrylic Screen Protector 3-Pack will ship by September 7. An order containing a DP6-SDI and the Acrylic Screen Protector 3-Pack will ship by September 15.)

This unfortunate slowdown prompted us to completely remove our StrongArm6 from the SmallHD.com store page, as it was the first product to hit this series of delays. Its final delivery is expected by the end of September, but that is all we know at this point. We will keep you posted if the status changes.

We hope this doesn't affect you, but if it does, we know this isn't the news that you wanted to hear. The silver lining is that we have everything required to ship your order except for a couple small pieces that are on their way—just a little slower than expected.

On a side note, we've thrown together an exclusive sneak peak at the DP6's accessories in a quick video for you. This is also the first time we've shown our new Focus Assist filter in action.

http://www.smallhd.com/Video/DP6Video.html

We'll release this to the general public before too long, but we thought you should be the first to see it.
