NEW SmallHD 5.6 inch 720p monitor

So if I understand correctly, if I get the HD-SDI version, I get hdmi input, plus hd-sdi in and out, and I can use the hdmi in and then sdi-out to another monitor. So I essentially get a black magic converter built in. Correct? If so, then i'm buying it. Like duh!

I doubt you get the same quality signal out of it. That BM adapter is astonishing.
For monitoring it´s probably fine, but for recording not so.

For recording?? Are you telling me that people are using the Black Magic's out signal to record to an external device? I was only interested in monitoring, but now I'm very, VERY curious about your statement. Please elaborate.

I've been beta testing the dp6 for awhile now. Its a very exciting monitor.

I've been writing a review on another forum, but here are some stills I'm sharing around.

Happy to answer any questions if you have some.

cheers!

That's what I thought. In that case, I don't understand the point of POSTMASTER's comment.

Yeah, not with the DSLR on the moment, but on other cameras.

I record - whenever possible - uncompressed via components out of my HVX.
But some of the newer cameras only have HDMI out and no components .

So if you got a video village on a big set, you want professional SDI cable instead of the flimsy HDMI.

mine came in , wooohooo

mine came in , wooohooo

The build quality from the 5.6 inch monitor, the battery holder mount, the battery, and even the USB keychain is TOP NOTCH!! , The usb key chain is polished real metal , stainless i think. Good weight to it and it even says smallhd on it. Sooooo cool.

The monitor has a great build to it aswell. metal construction. The battery mount and battery are a slick combination that doesnt add much size to it which is nice. Im charging it right now so when i get home from work ill test her out.

Im sorry , i guess version 1.0 was already out sometime.

firmware V1.1 should show up before midnight --- im not waiting till midnight so ill update 1.1 tomorrow.

Just got my monitor.

Hot damn this thing is overbuilt (in a good way)!

Got the snap on screen protector to keep the producer's ruddy fingers off of it.

Also got the Canon hot swap battery plate so that I can use my Canon 5d/7d batteries on it.

Looks great!

you can get false color on this right?
any focus peaking?
I heard this monitor does everything...
Have you tried to see how it scales the image from a 5d when on record?

Didn't see the false color, however I did not do the firmware update yet.

Does have focus peaking.

It does scale up the 5d when recording so that you lose the pillar boxes.

FINALLY, ONE monitor I can use on my 5d/7d and HPX-500.

I swear if it had a waveform monitor on it I would sell my LH-900 RFN.

I think they took it out of the design spec, I emailed small HD back in june a little while after NAB, and asked them if false color would be a included feature, and they gave me a firm yes. Something might have not worked out, but with firmware upgrades hopefully it will go to it. I think False Color is one of the greatest tools a camera system can have these days.
