FS7: New Sigma Cine Lenses

Very cool! Looking forward to seeing how these come in price-wise. If the money's right, I may just have to dip my toes in!

I won't believe this is true until I see another thread discussing Sigma Cine lenses on DVXUser.

Great move for Sigma! And for us. They stand to sell a ton of these if the price is right. If they keep the same pricing philosophy as their stills glass (the value offered compared to Canon and Zeiss), it would be pretty sweet. I'm hoping they come around the CP.2 price range, cause with those specs they could charge more.

Everyone is talking about these. This might be my next big purchase.

I'm dying to have f1.4 across the board. I don't usually go that low, but on the right shot that can look so buttery.

Yeah, these suckers are going to fly off the shelves. I am hoping to build a collection over time. Just trying to decide on PL vs EF mount. The one advantage of PL is they can be used on a true PL mount camera without needing lens support. EF versions would need the support.

Tough choice, but due to the short flange revolution, PL works on many cameras now except Canon and Black Magics unless you have the specific PL version. But yeah, for FS7 you need a PL adapter which is more $$, but then again, you need an EF adapter.

I think I'm going PL

From Newshooter this morning:

On the downside the lenses still have the same breathing as their still cousins. Yamaki also explained that the zooms were chosen for their near parfocal behaviour, but that they are not 100% parfocal

Very few lenses in the world are 100% parfocal. I assume this will come under the 'good enough' heading. Also not a big deal for me as I don't zoom in shot.

From Newshooter this morning:

If they fixed the breathing and had a good 200-250 deg of rotation I'd be all over these. As it stands now with custom cut rings the stills versions have about 120deg rotation so not too different from cine version and I can barely take the breathing on the 50-100 in a $1500 lens and definitely wouldn't spend $5K-$7K for a cine version that has that much breathing.

The primes on the other hand look like a great purchase (depending on final pricing) as I love everything about the optics just not the degrees of focus rotation. The cine versions should solve that.

Also not a big deal for me as I don't zoom in shot.

I guess that's one use for parfocal ability. For me, parfocal ability is most used to punch in quickly with the zoom lever, find focus, and zoom back out, knowing your wide shot is focused. I still don't find the electronic focus punch as quick to use and the digitally zoomed image as well presented.

Ben.
