It will be making it's way to film festivals pretty soon. Dvxuser.com has been very good to all of us, and we have learned so much here, so I am sharing it with you here first. I previously posted a trailer, but have done so much re-editing in the meantime, it's really different.

It's called "Freewheel" (which means to move or function freely, independently, unconcernedly.)

We did it for fun, and we had no money, except for gas and food. I wrote, directed, and shot it, along with the help of friends and a small crew. I hope you enjoy our labor of love. Please allow the movie to load.

Have a great day everyone!

P.S. Be sure to rate, and comment on my 5 minute movie "AFTERWARD" while "Freewheel" loads.

Very nice. I'm new to all this camera stuff so I'm going to ask boring questions.

How many cameras did you used?
What were your camera settings?
What NLE did you used?
Do you need permits to shoot?

Hi, totally not boring questions. I appreciate the interest.

It was 1 camera, and everything was set to 0 in the scene file. We edited on Final Cut Pro, and no permits as we had no money. =)

Have a great day,

Kristopher

There are some really nice shots in there and great montage - I kind of wanted things to move a bit faster, but I always grumble at my self for that, so it's probably just a personal preference. How long did it take to shoot?

Good point. I'm still trimming it down. We shot it over 5 days, 4 hours per day. I appreciate you taking time to watch it.

Have a great day,

Well, first of all, congratulations on filming a movie. It must have been fun. But I want to be honest here because that's the only way you're going to get better. This movie was not good. I only made it to about the six minute mark cause I couldn't take it anymore. Creative Guys already said it. The movie moves slower than a turtle. Amongst the many other things that didn't work. We'll start with...

The zooms - definitely made the movie feel amateurish. I know there's a time to use zooms. But when combined with all the other mistakes I list below, it just makes the audience think you don't know what you're doing.

The handheld shots - Made the movie look amateurish. Again, handheld can be used, but not in conjunction with all other tell-tale signs of an amateur project.

No color correction - The colors are bland; even with the bad compression of ifilm.

The music - the music was awful and extremely depressing. It sounds like some really bad cheesy film I saw in 6th grade when they had to show us a movie because it was raining outside. You know, where the kid's dad has to kill his dog. Even when you ramped it up (when she's running away from the couple), the song seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with the action. It just seemed like you liked the song so you put it in there.

The sound mix - Everything sounded on-camera. This is the worst mistake you can make if you want people to take your film seriously. You went out to do this, why didn't you use a boom mic?

Everything was blown out - This could have been shot on any video camera. Something that costs $300. All your whites are blown completely out which screams, you guessed it, "amateur".

I could sit here and lie to you and say "this was great" and I know you're going to completely hate me and think I'm an a*shole, but if you correct those six things, your next movie will be 1000% better. Anyway, and I really mean this, good luck.

if you trim it a bit more it will be awsome.
Oh and also I had a bit of a problem with the hero of the movie.
She doesn't look poor or that she is in any lack of money in the beginning and also until that guy said "I know you can't talk" I didn't understand that.
I think you should try to pass these two points stronger in the movie.
Because now when I saw it and when she steals the old womans wallet, I didn't like her cause the old woman was nice to her, and it made me hold a grudge against her the whole movie and I couldn't conect with her, and when I learn she did all this for ehr father I still didn't like her because of her stealing the old womans wallet.
So I don't know if this matters to you but I'm sure some editing can fix this if it does.

You have some good ideas and shots, etc. You took an idea and went out and filmed it, which is awesome. What this needs is a severe and skilled edit. I have a personal opinion about shorts - a short is less than 10 minutes. 25 minutes is just waay too long. Cut like a maniac, that's what I suggest. Cut whole scenes out. I don't need to see a shot of the "Autos only" sign in the parking garage. I don't need to see the Cali plate twice, etc. etc. I would at least cut the running time in half. But some good things here. Good luck!
