Hello Everyone, I just completed a short film (passion project) that I wanted to share with you all!

I wanted to shoot a film about living in the moment while at the same time paying tribute to the widely diverse cultural cities within Los Angeles. When you can fully immerse yourself in the #now you can accomplish amazing things.

The title contains a hashtag as I want the idea of living in the "#now" to spread.

All the dialogue scenes were shot on the Black Magic Cinema Camera using Nikon mount 35mm t1.5 and SLR Magic 12mm t1.6. The Panasonic GH2 was used to shoot all but the water/exterior car shots using Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4, Panasonic 20mm f1.7, SLR Magic t1.6, and Canon FD 50mm f1.4. GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition was used to shoot all the water scenes along with the shot outside of the moving vehicle.

This short was super fun to make and was done with the most minimum crew! I mean just me shooting and directing with just the 2 talents for the montage, dialogue scenes were just me and the boom operator, and I did all the editing sound/video in FCPX. Completely barebones, but I happen to really enjoy micro crews as everyone who is on set has enough to do where there is no air/time to waste.

Can't wait to hear what you guys think!!!

Great short!

In the beginning I was not really digging the look. Thought it looked a bit 'too digital' and the cuts were a bit 'off' some time in terms of the actor's expressions. Nothing big though.
Then when the music started and the slowmo shots, I thought it was awesome! Very nicely done. Great shots there as well and edited very nicely.
Good idea for a film also. Really good job man. If you can nail the finishing touch on the color grade and improve the transitions a little bit, you're there. Keep it up and good luck!

Nice. Well put together. Only thing that stood out to me was the vocal audio at the inner office bit sounded off. What was the mic situation like?

Luckily I have chosen not to participate in the "film look" chase simply because I did not shoot on film. Film is a look that was created because of the format that was used and now we have a different format so it is time to embrace it rather than spending time altering and often times degrading the image to mimic something that it is not.

I've been watching it over and over to see how I can better the cuts on the actor's expressions. I will keep reviewing to ensure that I get better and see where it can be improved.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the film and give feedback. Very much appreciated! Also, I checked out your film and left feedback on your post as well!

Thank you for watching my film! You may be referring to a few of the Manager's clicks and chuckles in his dialogue yes those may appear off as they audio clip used for those lines were of the audio of the following clip to give it that clean transition (and of course they were better takes haha). I feel like it was safer to sacrifice clicks and chuckles especially when they are for a split second and/or his head is facing down or from the side to better sell the cut, but if you noticed it then it wasn't sold well enough haha. Yeah I need to get a real sound crew as I recorded that on the very affordable Tascam DR-40 with the Sennheiser ME66. I had a buddy of mine help as boom operator. The office scene wasn't exactly controlled as we were using a space from a mutual friend who was also working at the time haha. I edited all the audio within final cut pro x and my friend took a little hum off of 2 clips in the opening scene as the XLR cable that I have doesn't seem to have good insulation or something and causing a hum... Hope this helps!!!

I applaud you for this!!!

This is something I have been writing in these forums for the last few years. Each "generation" of "filmmaking" has it's look and now is now. Hollywood itself is moving to sharper and more detailed imaging and with digital projection in theatres the "sharper" look is much better to my eye. I've always been a "sharpness" nut throughout my photography career, that's why I worked mostly in medium format in my studio.

I thoroughly enjoyed your short. You captured the essence of FUN in living in the NOW!. I'm not going to nitpick anything...It was too much fun watching.

Thanks for sharing.

That comment literally made my day. Glad we share the same outlook on this dynamic and ever-changing industry! It means a lot to me that you not only took the time to watch the film, but enjoyed it. That's all I could ask for as a filmmaker.

@Deckitout
Absolutely! Thank you for watching!
