New SD Mixer/Recorder: 552

I have to know when it'll be available and at what price. I was holding off on a 442 because I thought this might happen.

So- is the built-in 2-track recorder (WAV or MP3) as useful as a seperate recorder, or is it just a good "safety track" system?

I'm currently using a Wendt X3 & Fostex FR2 setup, with the main (reference?) track being sent to the camera & the safety track sent to the FR2... It sounds like the 525 would do away with the need for the FR2... Hmmmmm.

You have to have external timecode though. So seems like more of a safety track then a recorder replacement. What i really want is a CL4 for the 744t like the CL8 for the 788t. But i really want the slider fader version of the CL8 to come out.

Problem with that is you'd need 4 mic pres to really make it worthwhile. the 744 only has 2.

their prices tend to stay pretty much the same through the years.
I believe I bought my 442 for $2400 and now they sell for $2500
And they have "agreements" with all dealers to sell at the exact same prices
(legal version of price fixing)

I like that this is a simple scaled back version (no timecode, no display..etc)

Side note- Great new firmware update today for the 788T

Just a note, there is a "TC in" input, although I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

So I'm guessing you can get TC, but only if you're tethered to the camera or another TC generating source.

It's a shame there wasn't a more accessible place to put the sd slot. But I was expecting the price to be around $4000 so not too shabby.
