It seems to be called AG-DVC30 and looks like a downsized DVX100 with a 16x Leica zoom. The info appeared on the French "Repaire vidéo" forum at the end of January (http://www.repaire.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49294).

I can translate into English if some of you guys are interested.

Re: New progressive Panny cam ?

unfortunatly, this camera is a big downgrade from the dvx100. It is meant to go up against the GL2 as it has smaller CCD's and frame mode (like the xl1/gl2) instead of progressive scan ccds. However, it is much cheaper than the 100 so it should appeal to a much larger market.

There's a fair amount of discussion further back on this site. Check out:

Go to the following at the Panasonic site and scroll down to the AG-DVC30 and click on it for their ad (and download a pdf brochure).

Also, www.camcorderinfo.com still has a story about it on their front page if you scroll down a bit.

This month's Digital Videomaker magazine has the back cover advertizement devoted to the cam. However, it looks like it's not available yet. It's supposed to come by the end of this month (March).

It seems clear that this camera won't be quite up to par with the DVX100(a). Also, it is NOT progressive, but uses interpolation (see discussions in other threads). I'm eager to see how close it comes to approximating the film look, and wondering if it would be good as a second cam to complement the DVX100 in multicamera shoots (which I do a lot of).

Oops... Thanks Dave, and sorry for duplicating the info... I did check, but not deep enough, obviously... The moderators, if they will, may delete this redundant thread.
