New PL Lens Mount from Birns and Sawyer

Hi Everyone,

Have been talking to the Bill Meurer at Birns and he was telling me of this new PL mount and Base Plate they have come up with. What is even cooler is that the PL Mount is $750 and the Base Plate is $250. All you need to add is rods and you are ready to mount your Matte Box. Very reasonable I thought. He starts shipping at the end of this week. He is sending me a sample to take a look at it. But so far the pictures seem to give it a good hefty look.

Once I have one and have given it the once over I will chime back in.

Best,

Jan

Given the current state of PL mounts, I can only assume that it's a supported mount that's also shimmable, otherwise...

It'd be great to see some pics. I think I speak for most here when I say that some nicely machined and anodized aluminum really gets us drooling :D

I know, I should have waited for the pics. Sorry, I was just jazzed that the price is so good. And yes I think Bill did say it was shimable. I get mine on Monday and will let you know. I think there are a couple of dealers that are also going to be carrying this product, like I think he said Abel and EVS. Maybe I'll have pictures by the end of this week though.

Thanks,

Jan

very cool, cant wait to see it. after using my nikons with FF the past week, i may have to upgrade this summer for PL. i am having the slightest shift in my voightlander adapter from racks, PL would be my only secure option (amongst the other obvious benefits to a cine lens of course).

"slightest shift in my voightlander adapter from racks"

I'm confused?

Probably cause by a loose connection on his voigtlander adapter....but this is easily solved with a small piece of gaff tape, paper shim, etc. Body wobble is also common on old Nikon lenses, where changing focus directions causes a shift in the lens and shakes the image.

Jumping from Nikon primes to any Cine prime set because of a dud adapter sounds a bit grand, but I digress...

thats a great idea taylor, thanks ill give it a try. needless to say my 6 lens kit would go down to 1 lens if i opted to do that, though i am not in any rush/need to get a cine lens kit thus far in my film career, it would be nice. bgundu, basically the torque from the FF unit is shifting the lens in its mount the slightest bit, enough to be jarring of the rack, taylor had it spot on.

sorry to veer the topic of this thread!

Ok Gang. Here are the pics from from Jan for the Birns and Sawyer PL Lens Mount.

The baseplate comes black or special order polished aluminum as below:

Yeah, I'm a little confused about the design myself. It would be nice to get some more detail pics and also with the camera mounted on it.

I've also had the problem of the image torqueing about at the follow focus works. I thought that a supported Nikkor / M43 adapter would fix it. Hot Rod sez they should have one soon for their kit. BTW, focusing by hand didn't move the image nearly as much as w/ the FF.
