product 11-6 1081.jpgHere are some shots of the new Top Handle for the FS100. They are in stock and ready to ship now.
product 11-6 1082.jpgA classic Camera Dept. look - these are inspired by the Aaton grip. black walnut- shaped and oiled by hand. Don't let the good looks fool you - this is one rugged handle. Look carefully at the way it attaches- it's made to work hard.
product 11-6 1083.jpgThis is the first photo of our "Shortie" handle with 7 inch rods instead of 12.
product 11-6 1084.jpgOur Low Profile "Stub:" clamp. 'Finger tighty' screws attached. These clamps lock in seconds and are two piece so they can be attached anywhere w/o removing other kit. $15 extra for these finger screws. Worth it. Allen flush mount hex nuts are included - and a free allen wrench is thrown in too!
product 11-6 1085.jpgWe are the only handle with 4 connection points- 3 to chassis and 1 to cold shoe. And we give you a mini cheeseplate built in - it's a good deal.
product 11-6 1086.jpgThe front end of the baseplate is machined to lock into the cold shoe for overbuilt strength. The shaft pins this shoe connection to the chassis.
product 11-6 1087.jpgIt's more than a handle. With the clamps and a few rods which we supply- it's a whole solution for fitting out your camera. Adjustable like an Israeli Arm - but stronger and at less expense.
product 11-6 1088.jpgThe walnut grip is removable and adjustable too - I'm sourcing some hi tech polymer wrapping tape for people who want that "stick". or just go to the local bike shop yourself. tennis shop, walmart.
product 11-6 1089.jpgMonitor, lav, & shotgun- locked down and squared away. remember everything moves including the handle itself (360 degrees) -put it where you like it and lock it. Your good to go.
product 11-6 1090.jpgClamps at work- an affordable way to build things out- and always ready to change and adjust as your kit does.
product 11-6 1091.jpgProfile showing flip up screen in forward position (Shortie Handle)
product 11-6 1092.jpgShotGrip. The toughest most affordable Top Handle for the FS100 - and not bad to look at either. $225 while supply lasts.

I rented an FS100 for an upcoming film but if I ever end up buying one (considering it) these will definitely be part of my kit. Kudos!

Mine's just arrived (after brief stay in Customs Purgatory) - what a class bit of kit! Well engineered and feels just right with the bigger Nikkors and matte box.

Awesome Matt! Great to hear back from you! This is all so new, you're about the first shooter who has commented - so just great to hear it's working out well! We've had many customs delays but I think we did everything right at our end. I'm trying to find a smoother way to get these delivered internationally. You have to plan on 14 days from what I'm seeing - about twice what they estimate.

Thanks for the good word Matt, Cheers

Mine also arrived today, after a short local holiday in Customs - excellent fit to the camera, and extremely well though out - I was able to use the handle in its sideways facing mode this evening for a short hand held shoot. I certainly makes a huge difference to the feel of the camera.

Well done, Caleb!

Glad to hear that Paul! I like that side slung mode too, I've never been able to hold a camera like that before and it's cool.

All I did was draw a mess on a piece of paper and a real engineer Paul Erskine turned it into an elegant tool. He's interested in making a few more camera devices and as long as I can keep him interested in camera stuff- we're all winners. He's that good.

Thanks and good shooting!

Caleb,
Hello. I really like what you are selling. I have ordered my FS100 and it will be arriving next week, so I am not as familiar with the camera as someone who has been using it.
When I go to your order page, I find it a bit confusing. I find myself deconstructing what I see in the pictures and what you are saying in the paragraphs just to determine what exact parts I need for:
Mounting the monitor with "finger tighty" screws under the monitor (and would there be a benefit to have those at other points? Not sure. Just asking.) I have a Small HD DP6.
Mounting the Sony hand grip on the rails
Mounting the Sony handle/microphone holder

Also, I see you have a 7" rods for the handle now. Why do you prefer 12" for yourself? Does the 12" potentially get in the way of viewing the on board monitor looking down at the camera?
Sorry, but my eyes are glazing over. :)

Thanks a bunch!
Damien

Great questions man. The weblink is upgrading tomorrow or next day.
Reserved shootingmachine.net - making site in the morning.

>Mounting the monitor with "finger tighty" screws
Get them for anything you need to adjust frequently. They're worth it.
>would there be a benefit to have those at other points?
Not really. Like for the grip on the rails? No way. Just torque it down and forget it.
>Mounting the Sony hand grip on the rails
One 1/4" female.
>Mounting the Sony handle/microphone holder.
I'm using a male clamp screwed into either a 3/8 or 1/4 20 tapped socket. Our "cheesebase" makes options.

>Why do you prefer 12" for yourself?
Not easy to say. With a zoom and any kind of rods/matte box, the center of gravity of the FS is forward of the film plane which is right over the lens. That's pricey real estate & gets busy with kit,. with 12 inches I like being able to grab my camera w/o thinking or looking exactly how to make my initial descent. You know? The 12 always leaves a clean grab. That doesnt sound like a big deal but it is. I used the 7 inch recently for run and gun- and liked it. We only charge I donno 30? for 7" set of rods. Get an extra set and have two handles. both is better. The long is great for heavy kit days, the shortie better for sniper mode.

>Does the 12" potentially get in the way of viewing the on board monitor looking down at the camera?
Yes. That is an info monitor for me alot of times- so it works for me that way.

Hope this helps- I'll try to get a cleaner site up there real soon - Thanks letting me know it's unclear.

Caleb,
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! I appreciate your perspective from actual use of the camera. I'll give it all another look!

Cool Damien, you are about the last one to get intro pricing- nice!

That will go out Monday or Tues. Still have stock a couple handles but I think we sold out of clamps!
120 more on the way. And another 50 handles,

fun but stressy,

Steve Kahn (our illustrious member here) sent me an awesome photo of his new ShotGrip handle working hard
on the Goodyear blimp last week. He was using it like a mini handlebar sideways to lens that places his camera LED light off axis. Cool idea Steve. I put it on my website until Steve sends his legal team after me. (reviews section below). Took some photos yesterday for the new site.

Your handle is looking great, but I noticed in your video there's no quick way to break down the handle for storage. I've got my kit in two small pelican TSA carry on approved cases and there would be too much height for it to close. Any chance on getting a finger tightened system to attach the plate to the camera in the future?

Actually not so Rob. The entire handle disconnects from camera body in about 5 seconds. 5 twists on the black top crank and it lifts out of the "cheesebase". So just a few quick twists and she is flush on top.
I'll post a link to new video that shows all this here and it will be on the new site and vimeo. Shot it today- before the flat tire on I90 late to friends party.

Oh great, might have to buy myself an early x-mas present. After constantly lifting the camera with the hot shoe handle on my last job, I think I'll grab this so I won't have to worry if each time I pick up the camera by the mic handle will be the last.

Are there any left at the introductory pricing?
