New Panasonic AG-AC30

The Sony NX100 has a 1" chip and it only $1,700. While only a 12x optical zoom, the 24x "Clear zoom" seems like it gets really positive reviews. To me, this could be a very nice camera, but I'll take a 1" sensor over a 1/3.1" sensor any day to be able to shoot with high gain that has very low noise.

LED ring light is a cute feature, and I honestly hate the "on camera / deer in headlights" look, but when I need a camera light, I'll just throw one on the cold shoe adapter, so thats another feature that is moot to me.

If this can out perform the $1,500 AC90 at the same price, or cheaper, then it could give the NX100 some good competition. We'll just have to wait and see.

The Australian Panasonic site lists the price as AUS$1999. List price not street price. That is roughly $1500 in US dollars. When Panasonic said that they wanted to make it affordable they weren't kidding.

A lot depends on how good the low light response is. Does the improved low light come form a sensor and sensor processing improvement, or is it just stronger noise reduction? If it is good then event shooters, such as our nonprofit, could purchase multiple copies for work that is not narrative.

People will scream that it is not 4k but we cannot store that much footage. As long as it is 4:2:2 50mbs and meets UK broadcast standards then that is the perfect compromise.
