New Panasonic 4K 60P Camcorder HC-X1000

It's not a big thing... but when will Panasonic start putting in lens shutter / covers on their lens hoods? I think Sony was the first to do so on the Z1U, Canon & JVC have joined the party. Come on Panny, there is plenty of room for you to join the band wagon!

At $3,500 that is an amazing price. I really wonder what the lens would feel like. I only tried out the AC160 for a little & while the lens was nice, it wasn't as present as the lens on the EX1 (which has actual contact of the zoom / focus / iris... not just servo motors).

While I have not looked at the specs for any of the other 4K cams out there, I noticed this is a single ship camera. Are the others out there also only a single chip? I currently have a AC130 and while 4k looks great, how much color quality would be given up going to a single chip cam?

Well it will be interesting to see how Panasonic positions the PX270 against this camera. The other thing is the Leica lens. They have not used a Leica lens (at least publicly) in quite a few years. Who knows, maybe 8K is right around the corner...

Yes. And possibly more interesting still would be how they position the 160a replacement that is yet to come against the px270, given that the HC-X1000 appears to be replacement positioned somewhere between the AC90a and AC160a. Yet I may have the lineup all wrong. They can't give them a feature that is better than something the Px270 does.....or can they ;)

So, you know how folks like the "Panasonic" look and that look is often associated with a certain department team at the company, and different cams are designed by different teams. . .e.g. the P2 cams like the HPX170, 250 etc. have "the look" 'cause they were designed by that team, and the AC160 etc. do not have "the look" 'cause they were designed by a totally different team? So who is responsible for this new cam?

Weren't there some issues with the 160/130? Have they been addressed here?

Of course they can. Newer cameras do things the older ones can't. Simple example, this new camera does 4K, the PX270 doesn't.

That said, the PX270 has its own advantages. It has the entire processing engine from the PX5000 in it. From the released specs so far, it seems like the new camera has the processing engine from the GH4 in it. They aren't the same camera and they won't be directly competitive. But newer cameras frequently do things the older cameras don't do; the AC90 has much better image stabilization than the AC160, even though the AC160 is a more expensive unit (and has lots of features the AC90 doesn't).

This new camera sounds like a 4K next-generation version of the AC90 to me, and the AC90 has been one of my favorites since it was introduced. I am quite optimistic for the new 1000.

From the B&H video this camera apparently has two of the venus processors that are used in the GH4

What does it output out of the HDMI Connection... 8 bit, 10 bit etc..4K, etc ?

Looking forward to a review from you on this camera

I would love to get my hands on 2 of these for my events work. I wonder if it will have picture profiles like the GH4.
