New PAL GH1 Owner, some questions regarding 25p 1080 and streaking.

Hi all, this is my first thread I started I hope I did everything in the right place.

I'm the lucky owner of a PAL UK edition red GH1.

Very happy with the camera, despite my 7D pre order, I'm still seeing this thing as a very very versatile video device.

I have 2 questions, in the manual, under specs, it said that the 1080 recorded at 50i. I thought pulldown was only an issue in the NTSC models, unless of course I'm getting this all wrong.

Why does it say sensor output is 25 fps and 50i? How can i derive 25 pics a second?

Also there is streaking in lowlight, and it looks like my shadows are lifted and have my highlights complement color.

I was told the streaking would go away over time, that it was a sign of a new MOS sensor. Also I've seen a thread here about lowlight streaks just like these and couldn't really find a definitive answer on the issue as the thread was pages long.

Would really appreciate any feedback, dvx has always been top source with top trust.

Cheers all, I'm so on the panasonic bandwagon this week, headed out to do lowlight testing before I tackle the mts conversion, something I never did before.

If I manage to find a program that can accept mts, and can;t update adobe to accept them natively, what do I render to? I have not worked with too many formats I am very new to this.

Thanks all

Just use a 25fps timeline for your footage. You don't even need to think about it.

Turn off intelligent contrast.

Check out http://www.hotrodcameras.com/2009/09/07/quickstart-gh1/ for some starter's advice. Also http://96.30.23.131/showpost.php?p=1736668&postcount=377

Make sure that in low light your subject is lit sufficiently to get good exposure and you should then be less aware of noise in underexposed areas, which will then tend to become black - make sure the scene has enough contrast.

Thank you sir. :)

It's between day 2, streaking hasn't improved. I'm now sticking to Mr. Friedman's mention of staying below ISO 400 and using the 125/250/320 incrementation.

In a lot of light the camera makes great pictures, I haven't used my nikon glass yet, I can get to 1.2 with those, for lack of adapters in town.

Also I'm having trouble with mts, AE imports it and I can see a picture, but it doesn't read well (quickly and no colors or info in info bar when mouseover image) and it causes severe lagging and caused a crash.

Looking for a converter, and wondering about now what to convert to, and the new tidbit is neoscene turning into 4:2:2?

All very new. I love the cam though, not fond of the lens. Depth wise its enough am getting over the DOF fetish lol. I'm liking 70-140 on it its not as sharp, and I can have subtle blurs all the way up to f22 if bright enough outside (which it is we build with rock everything's white or beige).

A question on OIS, it's super handy on the street. Does OIS degrade image? in 720p50 (my favorite mode so far. 720MJPEG is catching up but is 30p)?

I will turn off intelligent contrast.

Thanks again for all, severe newbie in practice.

just read it ozpeter, answered many questions, still though dunno if OIS truly decreases the quality it hasn't jumped funny on me though.

can one use prores422 in premiere?

if so then i think i'm set just need the converter

cheers again

Link didn't work, we are spammers is a bit funny sounding. Also your post looks like an ad.

Anyone can verify this converter? is it free? does it run on mac?

I'm somewhat disappointed by the lowlight capability of this cam. Quality so far is not what i expect, streaking isn't really going away.

I'm shooting 720/30p and converting to PAL. So far the quickest, and most flexible.

Aside from the codec, (now i see what the problem is) the camera is phenomenal. Very versatile. I like the ergonomic, and the best thing about it so far is the ability to see thru the evf/manual control. Pulling focus very easy.

Not fond of stock lens at all.

Pls confirm your link sunrise, again thanks for your links ozpeter.

Wow yeah I saw.

I tried neoscene, the difference is staggering. I'm much more confident in 1080 mode now, was exposing much better on cam. There's a question I have regarding neoscene for PAL models.

I'm fixing chroma, for all clips, but when I drag a 1080 to the list, it says 25p automatically. I check no boxes for pulldown or deinterlacing, footage looking good, should I be checking any boxes or leaving it alone on a PAL model?

I think I'm buying neoscene.

I like cineform422 it handles nice.
