The new issue of TV Technology is reporting that Panasonic will show 2 new P2 cameras at NAB:

The AJ-HVC2000 is described as "a full-sized shoulder mount P2 camcorder ... aimed at the news market. It uses 2/3 inch CCD's 14 bit A/D processing, has five P2 card slots to increase record time, and can be switched between 1080i, 720p and standard definition formats."

The article has a picture of the camcorder, and it appears to have a fixed lens, like the HVX200.

The magazine goes to describe the AJ-HPC2000 as "using 2/3 inch CCD's and 14 bit A/D processing. It features five P2 card slots to increase record time and can be switched between 1080i, 720p, and standard definition formats. It is targeted specifically at the news market and features a 52db gain feature for low light work."

The picture shown in the article resembles the SDX900 in terms of size/form factor and it appears to have an interchangeable lens.

No prices or shipping dates were given.

damn.. I bet it's a p2 camera with no tape drive.. which probably makes it smaller, lighter and cheaper.. why wouldn't they do it. damn.

Please tell me a camera at this price point would have a fixed lens?

The model designations are almost the same. The AJ-HPC2000 is the bigger camera that has what appears to be an interchangeable lens.

The AJ-HVC2000 (emphasis added) camera appears to be built around an HVX200 size/form factor ... except that it is designed to be used in a shoulder mount, has a fixed lens, and it has 2/3 inch CCD's and five P2 card slots.

Again, this is just what I am interpreting from the article and the pictures.

Ask Jan if you really want to know.
