GH2 New Orleans

Filmed in October 2011 on a three-day trip to New Orleans. Initially meant simply as a reminder of a first visit, I also spent time listening to and looking for music that would enhance the footage.

On our last day, while sitting in the Cafe du Monde, I heard drifting from outside, this bluesy, low-down, dirty guitar riff, followed by an incongruously angelic voice. That was it. I went out and asked Cleome if I could use one of her songs for this video.

looks really great, makes me wish I didn't sell my GH2, and was taking a trip to 'Nawlins! The stuff in the cemetary looked especially good. That kit lens really shines in nice light.

@Rob - Thanks. Time for you to visit a unique place! And yes, the much maligned kit lens can deliver.

@HVXguy - Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the link. She's a very talented lady.

I really enjoyed this! I'm a nola native but have lived out of the country for decades. I get back every year and just recently bought a GH2. Going back in a few weeks and you've given me some great ideas on shots to get. Will miss Mardi Gras but St. Pats is a lot of fun and very colorful. You did a wonderful job and I'm really impressed with the kit lens. I have the 14-140.

...I'm a nola native...

Your comments are especially gratifying. The one thing that struck me about NOLA was despite the still visible signs of a great tragedy the area suffered, the energy and determination of everyone to mend and get on with life was inspirational. The level of restoration in the slightly offbeat tourist areas like City Park with its wonderful Botanical Gardens is exceptional to say the least.

I know that while my family was staying in Atlanta after the hurricane, they realized how truly special the city is and would live in no other place. That sentiment was shared by hundreds of thousands of other who came back and have NOLA and even better place. You should have seen pictures of the Botanical Garden area after being submerged in 6 feet of salt water for 3 weeks. The entire park looked like a desert afterwards. Truly remarkable that the park is full of life once again.

You vid made me homesick so I watched a film you may have seen - "Love Song for Bobby Long". I say this as I see some of the same style of filming in yours. I can't wait to get back and turn my soon to be hacked GH2 loose on the town!
