FS7: New Odyssey firmware update

Fantastic Mitch.

I have 2 small shoots next week so should be able to test and report in any findings with the FS7.

Regards,

Ben

I highly suggest you play with the update before you go into your shoot. There's a bunch of changes and I wouldn't want anyone to be unhappily surprised on set.

Hi Mitch,

I have a Wireless HDMI transmitter (Nyrius Aries Pro aka. Paralynx knock off) which I connect to the 7Q Mini HDMI port. Works like a charm.

My question is, will the LUTs from the 7Q be visible on the receiving end of the transmission out from the 7Q mini HDMI port? That would be awesome.

I would try it myself, but super busy for the next three days.

With the new Odyssey LUT System, you can choose to output the image with the LUT applied. In fact, the idea of sending a LUTTED image to a client monitor wirelessly was very much in our thoughts. Take a look at this link:

I've just finished updating my 7Q+ and installing the 3D-LUT Utility as well as the ProRes Transfer 1.7. Update went smoothly. Also downloaded the extra LUTs not included in the firmware update. Took a bit of digging to find as there I found no direct link on the downloads pages, but there was a link to follow in the pdf 3D-LUT Setup Guide.

I've converted Alister's FS7 LUTs using the CD 3D-LUT software but haven't yet loaded into Odyssey. I'll be testing CD's LUTs (both pre-installed and downloaded) against Alister's. The CD LUTs only represent 0, -1 and -2 stops (as far as I've seen so far) while Alister has a range from -3 -> +3 stops. Great way to expose in CineEI mode. Then load all of those LUTs into Resolve to apply to each respective exposure.

Will post findings as I find time to test.

Ugh, I wish I had the extension unit! Mitch, do you think the quality from the ProRes files is better than XAVC-I internally? I would love someone to shoot a side by side at the same time to test out the theory. Would definitely speed up my interest in the extension unit.

For anyone looking for the additional LUTs on the LUTs Resource page, next to the Built-In Preset LUTs tab is a tab for Additional Preset LUTs and Videos. Sorry if they are not clear enough.

I have my opinions but I'll let others test and post.
