Nikon indeed was THE FIRST to put video in DSLR- remember the D90? Canon 5D2 was the response to it. I (still) can't believe Nikon blew that one so badly....
A nice high resolution down sampled 2k 10 bit 14 DR camera for $ 1000/3000 camera would be all I need for a long long time.
* That cat test looks good, it seems the D810 will be the best choice for people wanting stills first, video second (though I still need to hear more about that log profile).
* I always say I don't need 4K: my eyes can't see the difference at a reasonable distance, I need better DR and a stronger codec much sooner than I need 4K. But yesterday I released this VFX heavy short film, and now I can see the point for 4K acquisition: I shot this with my 5N and then I had to make some plates bigger, which made my key AWFUL: AVCHD 8-bit 420 1080p at 200% size means your color channels are 480x270, and it's easy to see which shots those were. With an a7s recording 4K 422 externally, even at 200% you still have 960x1080 color channels.
