New NEX-FS700R and NEX-FS700RH camcorders to be announced soon too.

I wonder if there is any chance for phase detection AF on the sensor like the NEX 5R? Slog2 and 4k upgrade make sense, but I'd love that pdaf!

It'd be nice if they put the internals in a new shoulder-mount design, something like the EA50. But I doubt it'd be anything that radical.

They did something like this with the F3 after that firmware debacle. Images look good though so who can complain?

A Sony FS700R with the 4K upgrade done and the power zoom 18-200 as kit lens would be a pretty sweet thing if they keep the price (or lower) of the current models. Hope there's more to it than that though!

Probably it is just 4K upgraded version of the old camera. Maybe some minor tweaks to the buttons and such. I hope they do something to that in camera 2K RAW output quality problem.

What I hate about the old kit lens is that it zooms wrong way and the focus changes not just by the location of the ring but the speed you turn. It is just impossible to pull focus with. If you turn it slowly the focus won't change at all... or at least it was like this on FS700. Anyways, this kind of all purpose lens is suitable for ENG and doc shooting in the first place, but it doesn't deliver in that because of these faults. It's also bit short in the long end.

I have the power zoom version (came with my EA50). All Sony NEX lenses seem to have the manual focus "problem", I don't like it either. But used in combination with face detection, this lens is really good for certain things. Also image stabilation seems pretty good. My biggest issue with it is that it's too slow (3.5-6.3).
If nothing else, it will look much better on the product photos for the FS700RH than the old kit lens did ;)

I have problems with my 50mm Sony lens and auto focus, not happy at all with the fs700 auto... but who shoots auto anyway!

I imagine that adding Phase Detection Auto Focus to the Camera would eliminate the ability to use e-mount lenses, (which would no longer qualify it as a "nex" camera then would it?)
Personally I'd be super happy to have Phase Detection AF added, but my number one request would be for a 10 bit pipeline. I'm glad that I saw these posts about the new "R" version,
as I planned to purchase a new FS700 this coming week. Now I'll wait until the new model is released.

On another note, Sony should completely open up the 4K raw output to the Odyssey, (as no FS700 owner is going to actually buy their A5 4K recorder, and adapter, based both on price and on ergonomics...) Why would anyone buy a Sony FS700R for raw, when cameras are coming out for half the price that can do raw better?
If Sony really wanted to compete... they'd give us a global shutter!

You can always shell out for the F55.

You are so right about the kit lens. Follow focus is a complete waste of money for this rig because focus marks are not repeatable...
I might be selling this cam soon so we'll see what happens. Don't get me wrong I love the images but the ergonomics and issues like this make it difficult to use as an ENG style camera.
Although the 240 fps is certainly a wonderful feature....
Conflicted.
I still end up grabbing my old HPX170 for run and gun because it's just too damned easy. And the smaller sensor actually makes field focusing much faster.
Like I said though, in cinema style settings the 170 can not even come close to what I can do with the 700.
Just the resolution difference alone is ridiculous. Just a cleaner better image overall.

You'll be waiting a while, if history is any indication from what Sony has done with the f3 in the past, (rereleased it with the firmware upgrade) the "R" is most likely the upgraded fs700. No it will not have internal 10-bit. That's next round, plus it would certainly hurt their F5 sales and even their recorder at this stage. The fs700 is as good as its gets (with the recorders) until the fs800 is introduced. My point being, why keep waiting for something that they have out now? (or soon with the odysseyQ).

I shoot auto a lot... :2vrolijk_08: and don't see too much problem to STOP auto to prevent focus jump to backgropund :) ... and actually I don't like Phase Detection AF as much as autofocus with e-lenses... too fast, too often change focusing points without my control of it...

it's NOT POSSIBLE without Sony LA_EA2_adapter .....

We do not "must" to buy "Sony 4KRAW SET" ... we can just RENT it when client want to shoot in 4K and ready to PAY for it... ! :2vrolijk_08:

Why don't use CINE-lenses like Zeiss or even cheap Rokinon?

FS-700 is NOT "an ENG style camera" .. so what are you talking about? :undecided

SergeSmart,

I recognize that English is not your first language. But, with all due respect, all your postings give of a contentious and challenging tone. May I suggest that you'd get a lot more favorable responses if you showed a little more kindness and understanding.

I never understand why do I have to keep what I'm thinking about topic of discussion in case to be polite ... what is it actually ? room for discussion or Palace of Louis XIV ? someone talking about "how bad FS-700 is" and I have to agree with him? FS-700 is hi-speed 4K camera for filming narratives and commercials... it's not a camera for "local Fox News"... I don't know English as good as needed to polish my sentences... so what? I never understood why people in the United States demonstrate ecstasy about some obvious nonsense, instead of having to say honestly what they think of it .. some sort of "universal hypocrisy School" in society ... ( exept Edward Snowden ) I recognize that probably I don't have to write in this forum anymore ...
