Highlights of this release include addition of 280 Mbit I-Frame, 180 Mbit Long-GOP / I-Frame,
18 Mbit, Standard Def playback, XDCAM Optical compatibility (50 Mbit only), XDCAM Transfer software compatibility,
improved read/write speed to CF cards, and expanded CF card list.
See the latest user manual here:

Adobe Premiere CS3 and CS4 users: our MXF files are now supported in Premiere via the Main Concept MPEG Pro XDCAM plug-in.
At the moment, the Main Concept version 4.1.0 only works with nanoFlash files from nanoFlash version 1.0.112 or older.
If you are using the Main Concept plug-in, do not update your nanoFlash to 1.1.150 until the release of MPEG Pro 4.1.1 .
Main Concept will have an update to their plug-in, 4.1.1, in the next 2 weeks which will be compatible with nanoFlash 1.1.150.
See details here for version 4.1.0, compatible with nanoFlash 1.0.112 or older :

Sony Vegas users: the latest Vegas release 9.0c now accepts all of our MXF files including I-Frame only.
Additionally, nanoFlash firmware 1.1.150 corrects an intermittent audio channel 2 problem within Vegas.

Wow, 280Mbps! Do you need a special flash card to record at that speed? And does it look any better than 160Mbps long GOP? I can't really see needing 280Mbps unless it's for green screen or motion tracking.

And slightly off topic - any ideas if Convergent Design will make a version of the nanoFlash that records to MPEG4 formats (like the new NXCAMs)?

(Mike Schell, if you read this, please feel free to chime in.)

280Mbps = 35MBps so you need a card that can reliably sustain 35 megabytes per second (not megabits which is the 280). There are many cards that can easily read that fast but write will be a push for many.

Remember this is I frame, so much less efficient than Long GOP. Still I'm not sure now much better the 280Mbps will be, I'd love to know too and may have time after XMax to find out. Its a shame it doesn't have a 10bit option because its about the only thing anyone could hold against it...

There's another question for Mike Schell. The current chipset is only 8-bits, but who knows what the next generation will bring.

I guess that depends on what encoding chips are made avaliable by manufacturers to third parties such as CD.

The current encoding chip(s) in the nanoFlash is from Sony. The XDCAM EX codec is proprietary to Sony, and any future AVC implementation would probably be proprietary, too. I believe the AVCHD codec in the first NXCAM is 8 bits, but it's not a big leap to say that Sony will probably implement AVC with higher bit rates for 4:2:2, and possibly even an intra frame version with 10 bits.

So I guess the questions are: 1) will Sony license their AVC encoding chip to 3rd parties like Convergent Design, and 2) will the chip support 10-bits and/or intra-frame?

We probably won't find out for at least a year. After all, Sony hasn't even released their new HDCAM EX cameras yet (EX1R and PMW-350) . It would be crazy for them to cannibalize these cameras now. But I think the writing is on the wall.

Wow, that was fast! Their press release said first shipments in December. Usually, I take that to mean end of December.

God.....American prices are so tempting.

I would like to buy one as a second camera to my Ex3 and it would be nice to have a smaller cam, would give me more options when going for a stedicam too I'm sure.

This would need an adapter in Ireland....got someone over there who could get it for me.
