I shot this one in two days. One day band, icluding green screen and
one day with two actors. It was done for a great german metalcore band: Narziss (sorry, only german lyrics, but great songs, check out Narziss at Myspace)

setting:
25p mode
3 x 800W lights, green screen

Here is the file:
Narziss - Und du verblasst
(quicktime, 33mb)

and here is an image of the set:

Wow..really cool effects. I'm curious as to how you put it together - did you film each guy seperately and then merge it together for the video?

That was great, it reminded me of Sin City with the black and white effects like the light through a window. Also the green screen shots were money! Kinda' like Mudvayne's "Dig" video, were you can zoom on whoever you want and push the other people close or back. What did you use to edit this? Great frickin' job!!!

Nice work man! Enjoyed this one, i did notice some keying problems in some places for the lead singer, you should blur the edges a bit, if possible, besides that very cool. Like the black and white Sin City look. I`m also wondering about the band in the BG, were they all shot seperately?
Yes, more set photos would be awesome :)

the how to

the how to

Thanks a lot for the comments!!!

I devided the band shots into 2 parts.

One time in front of real black background, filming the entire band, with zooming, action and detailed shots and after that I shot them one by one infont of the green screen, to manualy composit them together in postproduction infront of the "sin city" artwork of their latest cd.

If you want to know more about this technique. I was inspired by a garageband commercial. There´s a great tutorial on the Cow

Thanks Cipa for the advice. The detailed keying of the leadsinger was hard. Think I have to improve that next time. My mistake was: he was standing too close to the green screen. After some shots he started to sweat, so his skin reflected the screen colour.

Unfortunately I have only these green screen set pics here.

Wow great stuff, totally makes sense!
Thanks for the photos, looks good. Did the band enjoy the video?

The band was going crazy as they saw it the first time, because I think the production process infront of a green screen is a little abstract for someone who isn´t a little nerd, like we are ;)

Its cool i just wished you utilized the green screen + post production. Technically besides a couple zooms in 3D space, you could of just shot this in a studio space with a black backdrop.

You are right, partitialy. We wanted to use the great album-artwork to substantinate the sincity look and feel. Thats why we shot the green screen. In my opinion the best way to get the artwork "behind" the band.

Because of the realy "hard to key" drumset, I was a little limited in moving them around, zooming in etc. Especialy the drum-hardware and the cymbals became a little greenish. If there is a cool tip to avoid that. Please let me know!

Thanx for your comment!

my only complaint is I wish you had much more aggressive edge light (ie any at all) That would have made it sooo much better :(

That said, awesome concept and execution! :D Just wish the lighting matched

backlighting would have helped with your keying issues as well. We live and learn.
