Whata doozy this one was. Went out to Austin to shoot this video for my friends in Black Bone Child. They had a white cyc wall studio for available free but after I heard the song I said "if I'm dragging my ass all the way out to Austin to direct your video, we're doing something worth our time and not just shooting you in a gap ad."
I came up with the concept and told them a minimal budget would get us what we'd need. They agreed but any band is really a committee so despite the lead singer being on board with it, they were fighting me every step of the way (they had $2500 saved up for a Europe tour that they didn't want to spend). So when i got out there I found I had lights but no gaffer, dolly but no one to push it, or any real crew besides a makeup artist who was begrudgingly accepting $150/day for makeup and hair. It was a crazy challenge but we did it and once everyone saw the final product they all realized what I'd been trying to do for them.
Ultimately I was the Director, and given two hands to help me light that had never touched a light in their lives... i was also the DP, gaffer, focus puller, steadicam operator, and finally editor. Turnaround from concept to completion was a week and a half. Enjoy
