New Music Video - Marc Payne

Man ... that was sick ! i'll be making a hiphop videoclip in 2 weeks and i hope it can be half as good as yours ! Really enjoyed (especially love when Marc is spinning around with the light and the background ... amazing !)

Thanks for watchin it! Rap videos are a blast to make...so I'm sure you'll have a great time doin it. And if it doesnt turn out the way you want it...at least you did it! And man will you come out with a lot of cool experiences!

Marc in the spinning room was definitely one of the most fun scenes to film...considering we had Marc, our DP, our Camera operator, our gaffer, and myself all on this rickety spinning platform that pretty much made as all sick by the end of the day...haha...but at the end of the day, the crew was giving each other rides on it (thank goodness for production insurance)...hopefully our fun translated into a pretty solid performance scene =)

Samsabawi,

A good example that basic lighting principles work every time! Without a lot of fuss, you got pro results. Nice camera work, too. I thought I noticed some Steadicam use in there.

Also, which lens adapter did you use, Redrock Micro M2, Letus Extreme or something else?

Nice work!

Thanks Clark!

Yup we did use a steadicam for most of the on-location stuff. And I'm quite flattered that you thought that we used a lens adapter...but quite frankly, we just used the stock HVX lens =)

thanks for all your support!

that was great. It's nice to see a hip hop vid that doesn't involve the artist standing in front of escalades the whole time.

thanks!

ya going into it i wanted to make sure it wasnt another girls, cars, and bling kinda video....so we tried our best to go the unconventional route...and the artist was actually more happy with this kind of a video so it all worked out!

cool and slick video! =)
What preset? 720p or 1080i? and what format did you upload to vimeo?
size of the video.. hight and width.

THanx for info =) And awesome work!

thanks spinevans!

we shot the video at 720p 24pn

Here are the video specs:

Quicktime H.264
Size: 1280 x 720
bit rate: 3000 kbits/sec, Optimized for Download
Sound: AAC at 128kbps in stereo

There is a really good tutorial on how to get the best quality upload of your video on VIMEO here:

Hope this helps! and thanks for the support!

pretty cool man. nice coloring. i thought it was an adapter at first too. what was your lighting setup?

i did notice his lips weren't synced to his lyrics in the beginning classroom scenes.

thanks man. what may have added to that lens adapter "film look" was the subtle vignetting we added in post. Also we tried best we could to shoot as long and open as possible, when possible. For the performances in graffiti room, however, we were close to our subject and our set was pretty compact so we had to make do with our deep DOF. Generally we were able to keep it pretty shallow most of the time, although, a lens adapter would have been very nice.

We pretty much had access to a full lighting and grip package for the graffiti room performance in the sound stage. We lit the room and the artist with 3 650w fresnels, a 1k, and a rotating diva-lite connected to a portable power supply on the rotating platform. For the on-location shoots, we pretty much stuck with standard 3 point setups which consisted of 2 650w and one 300w fresnels.

Im going to have to check up on that lip syncing issue as well...i noticed that...however I'm not sure if it is only on the Vimeo upload. Thanks for pointing that out!

Enjoyed watching an American hip hop video that wasn't, like you said all about "girls, cars, and bling"

Good work with lighting and shooting mate!
