Hey there, Hi there all...

Hope this finds you all well and let me thank you for stopping by :)

Ok, enough of that... I just shot this music video yesterday, long day including the lead singer taking a guitar head to the face early on, leaving him with a split up lip I am almost certain will scar (Fortunately I had shot his close ups on the first set up and it happened on the second LOL Atleast he can always point to it and say, "This was my first music video")

At anyrate I ripped a few stills with early CC tests to show the band and their label and thought I would toss them out here in the meantime. So, look, comment, enjoy. Hope to have this video finished and online in the next few weeks.

P.S.
For any who want to check out their stuff, you can go to www.myspace.com/classiccase We shot the video for "Hospitalized" although I like "Sweet Alibi" better, that is supposed to be the next video

They looks great!
What shutter speed did you shoot at?
Are the Kinos the only lighting you used?

Great lighting, not only on the talent but on the background too. Good use of shadowy areas and black crushing, gives it a nice grim, cave-like feel.

Well thank you all very much for the comments and compliments, glad ya dig em. Now to answer some questions....

First, color...
Good ole magic bullet. They don't have the budget for much else but I did tweak it a little within. Used the Berlin preset to start and changed up the contrast and brightness as welll as the white and black diffusion. That was just the initial though, did it rather quickly.

Those lights.
Yep just regular flourescents. I had a 4' double one in front of the drumset and two single 24" tubes on the ground. You can find them at wal-mart ect. they have their own housing and plugs, but keep your recipt. They are only $10 but they break easy, I had to return on ethe next day. I used them on the ground for that wide shot and also put them on the camera with Gaffers tape and used them the same way i would have used Kinos for the close ups of the lead singer (see third pic) Behind that I ahve two home depot dual head work plamps shooting through pallets with smoke machines going and one smaller work light shooting on the print of the building in the background (hard to see but partially visible in first pic) aside from that the only "pro" lights i had were two Totos on the ground, I had them far enough away to not be in the shot but to create that nice darker section in the center of the band members faces when they were turned toward camera (pic 1 and 4) and that was it..

I may not stay with this look, just because i have a warm orange coming off the building print and the flourescents are kicking a nice blue.. I may have to go with a truer CC this was just what I originally intended.

As to shutter most was at 1/250 for a little more energy since the band moves alot. Shot in both 24p and some 60i I will slo down a bit for one portion of the track.

So there you have it.. a simple aproach, easily achieved by almost anyone. Even if I had not had the Totos I could have done the same thing with a couple more small 500w work lamps. I tend to like limitations, it forces creativity. Hope to have a cut for everyone to see soon.
