New music video for Joy Wilams

B/W I used std HD for the color I used Cine Live V
Gamma was Cine Like

Just used Nikon glass - 17, 28, 35, 50, 105

The 17 is not Nikon.. it's some kind of Nikon mount lens I was given for free??

I did it for a friends start up label so there was no $$$ and no crew... just me.

I friend, I have a band with, did the foley... as you know, no sound in slo mo.

That was great!

Which lenses did you use for Joy's shots?

For Joy's shots, did you shoot 1080 or 720? Whenever I shoot 720p with a letus, and my nikon glass, I'm always critical of the softness of the image. But your shots looked amazingly sharp.

Did you do anything with the light on her shots? Or was the light naturally that beautiful?

hey! that was fun.

isnt breaking any new ground, but was well done and quite worth the time. cool song as well (same crituque applies to song)

Lighting for Joy

6x6 Grip Silk
2 4ft 4 bank Kinos bulbed daylight no egg crates.

I shoot almost everything 720PM unless it's going to be green screened or roto-ed

Lenses are just vintage Nikkors nothing special... admittedly not hard to hold focus as the camera didn't move... as I was the only crew I was hedging my bets - focus-wise.

Really? I didn't know Kinos would be able to compete with daylight. Did you have a generator? Did you use the silk to diffuse the sunlight, then use the kinos to fill? How far away were the kinos from her?

I probably have the same lenses as you, old Nikkors passed down from my dad. Sharp as can be when I shoot stills on 35mm. But when I use them on the letus/HVX, the footage doesn't look as sharp as yours. For instance: http://vimeo.com/3822372

Yes... we had a small generator.

I shoot mostly wide lenses so I was real close to her.. 2 to 3 feet... I did shoot the 105 to hide the lack of green.

Yes... the grip silk turned the sun into my key and the Kino's we're fill... about 3.5 ft away.. a Wall O Light or 8 4 foot bulbs will give you some fill.... especially because I was kind of in the shade.

In general I try to keep the camera at an f5.6 and the Letis/Nikkors at a 4... that combo gives me the best sharpness without seeing the vibrating ground glass of the Letus

Thanks!

So was the whole thing shot with your Nikkors at f4? You looked like you got pretty shallow DOF.

Sorry to keep asking questions. But what lenses did you use for each of her shots? The wide looked like a 24, the ECU looked like a 105.. Is that right? Both at F4? What about the Medium and CU?

The wide was a 17mm... some off brand I was given for free... bad except for music vids because of excessive port holeinf.

50mm and 105.

f4 is where I TRY to keep it... I probably opened up a bit on the 50.. as I said I was trying to hide the lack of green... neither lens are usual for me... but the situation called for those lenses. 35 is about a long a lens as I get when I'm in charge
