New Music Video (featuring Cry For Dawn)

Re: New Music Video (featuring Cry For Dawn)

liquid,
I know how it feels not to get any response (it hurts inside:'() so I watched your video a couple of times. Not a formal critique, but here are my thoughts:

-- I like the higher contrast shots of the band better than the grey shots on the deck.

-- The shake effect fits well with the music and you don't overuse it.

-- The first time I noticed the girl was in the group shot (without the instruments), and I couldn't figure out why she was there -- I think it would be good to clearly establish her as the keyboard player earlier in the video.

-- The back of the guy and chains is a good start, but I think you need to expound on that scene -- it helps to break up your video, but there isn't enough of it.

-- I don't like the black frames because they seem random.

The band's attempt at rage is disingenuous. You need to direct these dudes. Their attention is lost. I can tell by their focus. Watch your subjects eyes.

82 megs is kind of big for some people to download. you should make a much smaller version. I havnt looked at it yet because something that big will make IT come here and beat me.

Also, judging from how long it's taking to buffer the clip (slowly counting up ... now at 26%), I'd venture to guess that it's not streaming. Will wait until it finishes, but next time, it could help to compress the video a tad more and make sure it has the proper hints to stream properly.

Edit: Okay, watched the clip. Regarding compression, you definitely need to compress a lot more. WMP tells me that the bitrate is 12 Mbps -- this outstrips even DVD's 9 Mbps cap at full NTSC resolution! Anyway, you have a LOT of headroom for compression, so I suggest you play around with it a bit; it'll make the video much more accessible to us.

As for the video itself, I think the general style is appropriate for the band's music, but the "story" lacks some cohesion. My favorite shot was a wide one of someone in a large pool, but beyond that I didn't get a solid sense of what I was actually looking at.

By tightening up the editing a bit, I think you can either go for an abstract, edgy style, or introduce more story elements to explain what's going on. Keep up the good work, though!
