Makes me proud to be a DVX100 owner. Makes me sad I can't shoot footage like that :-(
Great stuff! But I understand the ECU debate. IMO If the very first shot was an establishing shot of the band walking to their equipment (can't see their faces), then cut to the amp shot. That might help ...or it might ruin the whole vid. Don't listen to me, I've never made a video as good as your "rough-cut". Good luck.
wow that rocked. Few questions... what shutter speed did you use? Also, what methods of color correction were used? Was the crazy shaking towards the end done in-cam or through an NLE. Thanks
Nice ...Very Nice for an indeoendent music video. I must admit that upon viewing the first few frames I was intrigued because it seemed as though you were using film, but then I realized that it also felt a slight bit like digital. I was wondering if you could shed some light on the equipment you used for the video (lights, camera, editing system/programs, etc. ) As one person said before, the video is very kenetic, and I feel that the video does much justice to the music, which in itself is a very kenetic piece with potential. good job .
Hey, can you post your scene file settings? I am really interested to know how you got that look. Even if you did change it in post, can you let us in on your settings? Thanks, much appriciated
Wow, if that's your rough cut then I quit, I'm going to be a full time bird watcher or something. (You know, ride in traffic all day and cut people off then what for the finger )
The lack of the wide/establishing shots didn't bother me at all. For the space you had and the lack of narrative it was still very, very interesting to me (watched it twice). I think this edit has its own hook or feel with how you did the CUs/reveals.
This is definitely a "bar setter" imo and one of the best on the board ;D.

The first half of the video is 1/48. The chaotic ending is 1/120.
No real Color correction except for a bit of Magic Bullet to make it a little punchier and to add a little vignietting. All shake was in-camera.

All default F6 settings. We worked hard to get colors looking good in camera.
Excellent job on the video! I loved the colors and selection of camera shots. You definitely have an eye for art... I am very impressed!
My only thought is that I have problems staying attentive to music videos that only have the band playing with no other story line. As good as the shots are of the band playing (and they are GOOD!), I prefer to watch a story go along with the video.
an ECU is an EXTREME CLOSE-UP.
The thing is that on film, a medium intended for large-foramt projection, a wide shot of an object in the camera can still wind up looking 10 feet tall on screen. Consequently, extreme closeups are usually disturbing on large screens for the same reason...nobody's used to seeing an earlobe 50 feet wide...so that's usuallly a major difference in the shooting style of film versus the shooting style of video. In most cases video is intended for smaller screens, so there are more uses of the closeup.
The example that usually gets used is the scene in Lawrence of Arabia where there's an extreme wide shot with the guy galloping from the far background into the close foreground...on a TV set, that horseman would look like a tiny gnat...you wouldn't even SEE him until he was about midway between the back and front...when projected in its native 7Omm on a huge screen, it's a spectacular shot.
In other words, you shoot for the format on which the film is most likely to be seen.
Some people break that convention on purpose, but most people don't even know about it...and few take advantage of it. Bob has grabbed it like a SWORD and hacked his viewers to smithereens with it.
On the ECU thing - I just started a post in the hardware section on achcromatic diopters for EECU's - have you ever thought about using these things ?
I luv the close up stuff & am now thinking to get greedy for more magnification ;D
