Hey guys just wanted to share my latest music video here. Shot on the GH1 with Nikon primes for the band Yellow Wood. Hope you dig it! Youtube HD or Vimeo, it's up to you!

Hey! Really loved it! Great in all aspects! I gotta say I'm loving the jello effect more and more everyday! It really gives an awesome effect to the image! Only thing I dont like is the gradient banding, that sucks with GH1.

Loved the editing, the story was cool for a music video, shooting style suit it very well. Awesome!

I hope there was'nt too much jello in the video, I was trying to avoid that, are you referring to the strobing of the back light maybe? That's cause by phase issues that we tried to play with for effect.

Yeah I loved the strobe effect, it looked great, how did you do that, did you just use a dimmer that put it "out of phase" or how?

Not too much jello at all, but like I said I really dig jello nowadays, it looks like that effect where film isnt running quite as smooth through the gate as it should and it gives the image a little seasick wavy feel.

Ah, gotcha. The back light is a 650 HMI, so when you set the shutter on the GH1 at around 50, you get that strobbing, which would be a total nightmare in a short or feature, but for music video it's a great effect, so we went with it for a couple passes, and increased the shutter speed to avoid it when we wanted clean light.

Quick side note about the banding gradients around the lights, I found it really only became a problem if you were grading heavily, so I think the key is to shoot as close to the look you want in camera so you don't put too much strain of the codec, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, cool! We were using two 1.25 KW HMI's on our last shoot and got that same effect but way milder, but that was due to the generator not being made for pro light equipment so it didnt feed the electricity properly (my english fails here maybe ;) Got it working after plugging into a proper power outlet which we luckily had as a backup (sic!).)

Yeah Ive noticed that too in regards to banding, usually I like to grade a little at least and it does became difficult especially when using a smoke machine on a shoot.

I gotta say that the codec on the GH1 is the only reason I'm really looking forward to being able to purchase a better camera some day. Oh, and a low light wide angle at reasonable price is another ;)
