New micro35 + Sony Z1 images

Nice, but what camera and lens was used to shoot these grabs?? The Nikon was on the sony. And secondly, when and how do I get to make my order? There's been lots of talk about the existence of the product and what it can do but absolutely nothing about how to order one. I have been talking to James for months.

Last time I spoke to James was April 20 (see below), and orders were gonna be happening the following week. Nothing happened. I'm wondering if I should just sell my lomos and get a teleconverter.

Hey Earon,
We're expecting to start taking orders next week. Sorry for the delay in getting back with you, things have been moving very fast around here.

Talk with you soon!

Hi Earon -

Regarding these grabs, Thanks for catching that - I updated the page with this info: This is a Sony Z1 camera, with a Nikon 105mm f.2.5.

Regarding timing, I agree with you everything has taken longer than we all had hoped. You can see from the updated product pictures we made many enhancements to our designs based on user feedback and some additional enhancements on our engineering side. We think it will be more than worth the wait.

The first place we will tell everyone when the orders are ready is via our newsletter, which can be found at www.redrockmicro.com.

We are working overtime to get the product out, and I won't bore you with "really soon now". What I can tell you is that you are looking at the latest units that will go into production.

Sample footage is coming shortly.

And finally here is the sample HD footage (it's the last one on the samples page titled "Dancing"):

http://www.redrockmicro.com/samples.html

Couple of things to note:

1. shot at twilight

2. There is a lot of artifacting from the heavy HD compression (example; green backgrounds look almost posterized to me)

3. the little girl bumped her head - it's a butterfly bandaid

Cheers

Brian

I'm curious... what about the flicker? Is this apparent on a reference monitor or just in the .wmv stream?

e

I also noticed the flicker and the rotation especially around the edges. if this isn't part of the wmv, couldn't it become even more of a problem with certain color correction adjustments?

overland - I noticed some of that too - I am told you can't see any of this in the original uncompressed footage - I should know more this week as the camera/original footage is being shipped to me (it was shot elsewhere). A couple of folks in other threads have made some good suggestions to minimize the wmv issues, so we're going to run some more test footage this weekend to vette this out.

Thanks

I compress all my 24p and 30p footage to .wmv files and never get pulsing or flicker, so I'm keen to see how this washes out.

Any word on pre-built unit ship dates for DVX100a?

e

One thing we noticed is that Auto-stabilizer was one, which really messes with the gg setup. We are testing this weekend to see how much that contributed to the issue. We will announce ship dates at the end of this week. It's sooner than you think (assuming of course we know what you think :) )

Yes, when using one of these type of devices it is *vital* that you turn off all forms of image stabilization. Otherwise you get a disturbing "floating image" thing going on...

Brian, announcing the ship dates is welcome news. Will you also announce the method for making the purchase. The new micro35 website (as of last week) makes no mention of HOW to make a purchase (e.g., paypal, visa, check, money order, etc.).

While I have found this lack of business acumen somewhat frustrating (I have had on and off email correspondence with James since this winter) I understand that the development and marketing process has probably been somewhat overwhelming for James. I offered to send $500 months back - but no reply to my correspondence.

But please, let me know HOW to submit an order for the #*@$ micro35 and pay for it. I almost sold my Lomo lenses a couple of days ago and given up on the micro35 in frustration.

Not trying to be an ass here ... just expressing my frustration. I worry that after months of interest and an ongoing willingness to make the purchase your lack of systems will result in me not getting a micro35.

Sincerely,
Earon

Hi earon,

I understand your frustration. We have not done well setting expectations and we want to do better in that regard.

The "how and where to purchase" will all be explained in our newsletter coming out in just a bit. You can subscribe to it (if you aren't already) at redrockmicro.com. Briefly, we will be selling direct with the redrockmicro.com website, and you will be able to pay via paypal (which also accepts credit cards, etc. - you don't have to be a paypal member).

Also, HANG ON to your lomos! We are finalizing our OCT 19 supplier. If you want to be part of the early group to get the OCT-19 mount (I have lomos as well), drop me a line and let me know.

As for cinegear, we don't have a booth but I will be there - I am the only guy with a micro35 hat. So if you see me, just stop me and we can arrange something

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian,

Of course I also want to be part of the early group to get the Oct-19 mount. I bought the 4 LOMO lenses specifically for the mirco35 (and now have a matching Kinvas 2M 35 mm camera). I did sign up for the newsletter via the redrockmicro website, but I have a nagging doubt that I'll receive it. I am just not trusting the systems.

I tried to send you an email through this board and here is the response I got for my efforts

"vBulletin Message

Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help."

That response does little to reinforce my faith in your systems. Can you send me your email address? I'm at etearon@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Earon

Well this looks like a good purchase to make. Much cheaper than the mini35 and if does the same job I will buy one. $500 or $5000 + adaptor? Think I know where I would spend the money.

Also, I completely forgot to post here -

Some new vastly improved HD footage of the micro35 with the Z1U:

http://www.redrockmicro.com/footage...eadingSmall.mov

We shot some more footage this weekend - we learned a lot from our previous (mis)adventures with the Z1, and managed to turn off the most problematic settings.

Production notes:

Shot between 6-7 PM
Zony Z1U at 60i.
Two lenses: primary is a nikon 50mm f. 1.4, secondary a nikon 85mm f. 1.8
Apertures: 35mm lens was left wide open. Z1 aperture ranged from 3 to 6.2

No post other than the 180 degree flip.

I also uploaded a sample uncompressed tif (it's big - around 6MB) at:

http://www.redrockmicro.com/footage...ardenstill1.tif

Feedback welcome.
