im about to buy the amc upgrade, but should i upgrad my computer first? will the amc upgrade run on a 2.8ghz dual processor, 2 gigs of ram and my c-drive is down to 12gigs? i want to buy the upgrade now cuz i fear the price wont stay where its at. i was thinking of putting it away in the closet until my computer is ready, but i know ill be tempted to use it once i get it. would really love some input thanx for any help.
I am running MC 2.8 on a dual 2.0 Ghz G5 PowerMac tower, with 1.5 gigs of RAM.
I have another 2 gigs of RAM on order, but I don't notice any problems, personally. A little lag when switching into my Audio toolset, but thats about it.
anyone coming from an old school avid is gonna see the new stuff as slow and laggy because of the way ram is used now. This is really what I am referring to in general when I mention the big down-grade.
When MC was hardware-based, ya could not crash it and try as ya may, ya could not get it to lag with 20 layers of coolness and 500mhz of ram.
Now, man, it aint slow... it's normal. It was just great a long time ago.
BCC 4 = $750
Sonicfire Pro 4 Filmmaker Edition = $375
Squeeze Compression Suite 4.X = $400
DVDit Pro 6 = $300
Total: $1,825
Avid MC: $2,500 - $1,825 = $675
So in actuality, Avid MC is only $675. It's hard to believe. Another hard to believe is, I don't expect Avid MC will be selling at $675 any time soon without those third party software attached.
And if a user don't need BCC because they want Magic Bullet, SonicFire Pro because it's useless without purchasing sound libraries, Squeeze Compression because they prefer ProCoder, and DVDit Pro because they already have Encore CS3, it means throwing $1,825 to the trash can and getting a $675 worth of software for $2,500.
