Okay guys, due to the response from here and other forums the new site is up and the gallery section is now all framegrabs. I hope you like it. And I used the in camera 16:9 versus the other way I was doing because I was told by you and some others that the images looked squashed. To see the new stuff click here-> the4thbeast.com.

Um... The link to the trailer doesn't work. ???

Really nice framegrabs, though! I love the "John Woo draw" one (that's always been my favorite action-movie move).

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

I'm working on that now but the new trailer isn't going to be up for a few weeks. Personally I'm a big fan of the "draw" pic myself.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

Yep, that's how we white balanced it. You'll see a different type of white balance in the fight scene which is also outside. (I'm sure you guys are starting to catch on that I play around with the white balance a lot based on the scene we're doing). It's all about the image. Although we're reshooting part of this scene because as the sun moved this style of white balance didn't work out too well. I'm thinking of using the same balance I did for the fight scene though after he gets into the park. You'll see the difference.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

on the skank hooker's image you said

"What we did was white balance against the actual scene itself until we got this image"

What does that mean?

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

We pointed the camera at the scene as opposed to a card until we got the look that felt right as opposed to the basic "outdoor" look (which would be the look we used for the martial arts scene). That's how we got that "back alley" look. By the way, a better trailer is up. It's not too different from the last but you'll see. There's a six meg trailer and a 2 meg trailer. One's a little bigger and can be expanded a little more.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

But when you point at the scene, isnt' the camera looking at something with a specific color when it's doing it's White Balance? If you hold a card up in a scene, isn't that card part of the scene, in the same ambient lighting as the rest of the scene?

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

Yes, but we didn't balance against any specific color. We don't even know color it balanced against. I have an idea what it may have balanced against but I didn't chose. I let it do it's own thing. Sometimes I just point it at the scene and hit the white balance. If I don't like what I see I go back to a preset.

I like to have fun when I shoot and experiment with things like this. Some people figure it's not professional but then again I go with what I like. In film school everyone concentrates on getting the basic down but when you actually start shooting you have to shoot for yourself. That you'll always be satisfied with your look.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

The new trailer does look a whole lot better; you seem to have tried out some different takes here, and I think they work more than the previous ones.

However, I find it odd the way you changed how the list of actors is displayed. Shouldn't you have it so that the names of the actors are followed by clips of those actors? I think maybe you tried to do it the other way around, so that you see the actors first, then their names, but it doesn't fit in well with the context of the other shots, and it throws the viewer off balance, especially when those last two titles come in so quickly. It seems jumpy.

Basically, the editing is a little bit incoherent. I know it's just a trailer, but remember that a trailer is what gets people interested to watch the whole movie. If the editing in the trailer is sloppy, no one's going to bother with the rest of it.

It's really a shame, because the footage you've got here itself is very, very nice. Spectacular, even, compared to what you'd expect from an independant action film. If you can just put these shots together in the right way, you'll make it infinetly better than it is right now.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

I think it flows better this way, because we see the actors do their thing and just about the time you're asking "who is this person." (because most of these people relatively unknown outside the industry) you find out who they are.

The first time the trailer is seen it'll be a blur, "making" you want to see and hear it again. But one thing you said did click, I may do something about the way that last title cuts with the Jason's name. It is a bit jumpy. As for the indy action comment, thanks. Myself and my choreographer are huge action fans and I've been trying to make sure the action is off the cuff.

Here's a new one ladies and gents. Delilah and Sebastian up to no good. By the way, In a Philadelphia Inquirer article entitled "A Passion for Tales of the Endtimes" It gives a brief rundown of the religious themed films and books coming out. As many of you may know Left Behind's final book "The Glorious Appearing" will be out and NBC is working on an endtimes film but in all that there's this: "Other entertainments focusing on the end time are in production, including an independent movie called The Fourth Beast: Mask of the Antichrist, now shooting in Chicago." The full article is here: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/8307718.htm?1c

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

Here's a contest for this forum. One person here can win a copy of the movie when it comes out. Go to the MOA forum and write an eassy on why you should win a copy of 4BMOA. It doesn't have to be long. Just give me a reason. Winners should be posted in on June 15, 2004. One person from each forum I belong to will win so be sure to post the forum you're from. By the way, 4BMOA is not a short, it's a feature length film. Just click here -> http://www.the4thbeast.com to go to the forums.

Re: New Mask of the Antichrist Grabs!!

Nate, did you shoot part of the film in the Columbia College residence hall lobby? The reason I ask, is that I recognized the lobby in this pic:

.

Anyway, thought that was interesting!

:o Wow! Good call! The res hall doubles as the rectory longue in this movie. The vast majority of actors in it are Columbia students or Alums. As a matter of fact The Chronicle did an article on us.
