Don't mean to diss "The Man" or anything, but who the hell took this picture!?!?

Don't you guys lock the door when in the bath!

BTW, welcome DeBranne - Diamond member on day one - Guess it's who ya know!

I was going to ask you if DeBranne was the same girl taking a bath with you in your profile picture, but I didn't want to get my hands dirty in case the answer was negative... :)

Thank god it isn't!

Oh, welcome aboard!

And if you are still asking yourself; yes, we are a bunch of nerds.

AND you can run up to EIGHT cinema displays off it with the new cards (Quatro FX) they're putting in them. INSANE.

Just wanted to make sure it was addressed that this is a FALSE statement.
The Quadro FX card takes up 2 PCIe slots. Meaning you can only install 2 of these max, which equates to 4 30" displays (4 PCIe slots on these machines).

If you install a lesser card (aka the Geforce 6600 LEs, or the up and coming 7800 GT) you can install 4 of them and run 4 30" and 4 23" displays(or of course lesser sizes, aka 8 23"s) simultaneous. This is the 8 display setup quoted possible.

Also note, the OS has supported many more than 2 screens for a while - I ran 3 17" crts off of my powermac with the addition of a PCI Radeon 9200 - but it was buggier than I'd like (crashes with quicktime video almost every time) and so I've resorted back to 2 displays. Hopefully now that the 2+ displays feature is being more broadly advertised, it's bugs can be resolved (though I'm assuming what I saw was a bug in the card/drivers I was using).

You may now return to your discussion of Jarred's personal life.

You're right, I should've said 6600. Which card wasn't the point, it was the fact that it can be done. Boo Hoo, You get a cookie.

yes, it's me, the same girl! and i don't think anyone is a nerd!... well, maybe 'cause i like nerds! (i'm kinda one myself!:)

DAMMIT. see this is what i hate about apple..

I don't know how you can hate apple for consistently producing and delivering quality machines. The have consistently produced upgrades at about every 6 months. So in 6 months people who buy now will be complaining, but "I just bought this". If your goal it to have the latest and greatest machine, then your stuck buying a new machine every 6 months or so. Otherwise get what you can afford, and what you need now, and then use the hell out of that machine. (I'm still using the dual gig G4 I bought about 3 years ago.)

I think that the best thing you can do is to wait about 6 months after a new upgrade to buy. Then you can buy a new machine that has a quicker speed, and has had time to have the bugs worked out. Or you can buy the first version at a considerable discount, either way you win. I'm still holding out for the Intel macs, and even then I'll wait until one round of machines has hit the market. I've got work and films to do. I'll let everyone else figureout the bugs first.

I'm with you Waltind. My dual G4 is two years old and running rock solid. I can live with it for another year or even another year and a half.

Those quad G5's are really tempting, though...

Tell me about it- I'm drooling just looking at them. But them I've got to bring myself back to reality- My setup is working great, it's paid for, can't complain.

I'm editing on a G4/867 MHz SINGLE-processor I've owned since October 2001.

Ha! I can't wait to get a Mac-intel. It will be quite the leap in performance when I finally do so.

I just noticed your black-eyed emoticon. Is that in reference to your recent hiatus?
