I spoke with three different Apple software developers today and the consensus is that FCS 3 will be the last iteration, after that pro apps will probably go away.
One thing I believe is missing on the MacBookPro 13" inch is a 3GB SATA connection.
That means that an internal SSD will run only at 1.5 GBs.

And about the hard drive, that's something you can always easily upgrade in the future by your self.
In the end, while I didn't want a massive 17" Notebook (because it ain't all that PORTABLE you know)
It's not the hard drive that's the problem, it's the interface. You will not be able to upgrade the hard drive to anything appreciably faster because the information will not go through as fast as it could. At the same time, you will not be able to use an external eSATA drive for a faster interface with a RAID set up. What apple has done is curtail exactly what you said you can do. You can not, in fact, easily upgrade in the future without upgrading the entire machine if you purchase the new laptops.
I know that it won't be a problem for most people, but it is a problem for me. I don't want a 17" laptop. For me, that serves absolutely no purpose. It's not what I would call portable at that size and I have a very nice desktop system I can use when I need the resolution and screen real estate, but I'm not always local to that system. I need a portable computer that still has good technology behind it so I can work when away from home and none of the Apple laptops fit my needs.
The problem with saying that Apple seem to listen is that they do, and they already have. They choose the overwhelmingly largest part of their audience. The market segment they listened to don't use expansion cards of any kind, nor applications that require fast hard drive access. I've notified Apple of my feelings on their hardware choices but I get the feeling that they've already made their decisions on this one. I don't see the same outcome as firewire. Who knows, though?
What I do know is that I can't be alone in in expecting advancing technology as time goes on, not downgrades, and this just smacks of nothing but downgrades.
Poor Guy. I hate to see people overpay for hardware. Sniffle.
