Hey guys,

www.dandobi.com

its called big d n the kids table - noise complaint

1 of 2 videos shot in 1 day. yes 2 in 1 day. check it out and let me know what u think.

Totally my bag baby. That little diddy takes me back to my safety pin piercing, leather jacket wearing, Vespa-riding days of Madness yore. Love it.

One question: why the heck is the set so bright? Thought I'd never ask that about an HVX footy clip, but there it is. Not too much light, but maybe just a little flatty-flat? Doesn't change the fact that I love it.

One confession - I never had a Vespa. :(

Very cool clip/music, great camera work, I felt like I was there.

I was also wondering about the lighting, more so, how much did you use and what did you use (HMI?) from your rental equip? From the reflection on the trombone, I could make out at least 5 or more lights back with the camera, and 3 were big/diffused.

cb has a flashback to stovepipe jeans, ripple sole boots, playing ska music - different era, same sound.

hey guys, I wasnt the DP on this one. but I operated and racked focus. the Director had never shot with the redrock so he always took my ideas and made them come to life. thats wat makes the way dobi works so ****in awesome. The are parts that are a little blown out but I believe that was done in post. Id have to double check.

As for lighting we had, I believe, not sure but from what I saw, 3 5 ks, 2 2ks, 2 1ks, 2 650s, 2 300, 2 150s, all fresnel tungsten balanced units. then they had chinaballs with 250 watt tungsten balanced bulbs. about 4-6 of them. we shot another video on the same day, should be up on dobi's page in the next week or so. look out for it.

Heck!
I've watched this thing about ten times tonight and I'm stunned-out by it!

(I have to say the focus pulling's seriously good).

Look at the peak on the cop's hat to get an idea of the lighting used.

All technical achievments aside, the video was extremley boring. Im just not a fan of music videos where you can scrub to anywhere in the video and cant tell where you are in it. Basically the same shots repeated over and over and over ...and over again. More creativity would have been great, the little part story was not enough, but i guess thats enough for this generation of music video audiences.

The idea is just another me too idea imo. Hey we want a video as well! Well now ya got one.

Good work to all though. We cant all be "Smuggler's Blues"

Wow !
You have something BETTER to show us?
(I can't wait).

Lets not hijack this guys thread with school yard immaturity. :dankk2:

Besides, i gave an example of the types of videos I like in my previous post.

I liked Big D a lot better when they were playing with dub.
To me this was a really good video to a boring song.
It is nice to see some "ska" music videos still being made though.
I'd kill to see something of this quality for an aggrolites video.

What lenses were used on this?

That's some serious light. Wish we had something like that to play with on our indoor shoot yesterday, as we wanted to stop down the Nikon's to f8 to see how much it would widened the focal plane. I guess because you had so many layers of people, you kind of always have someone/thing in focus. Did/do you find focus a challenge, even with a Marshall or other monitor?

No - Of course not!
(Or even predictable cop-outs - eh?)
If you want to label this work as boring, the least you could do is show us something you consider to be interesting and creative.

Do you have anything like that to show us?

Andy

i did, must i provide a link , i can remotely connect to your computer if you would like me to move the mouse for you to the link as well.

i do have some modern ones that are great , but considering the fact that i dont like 99% of music videos , or 90% of music created in the past few years, i dont watch any music videos unless linked to or recommended by friends with like tastes in music videos.

I cant remember the name of the band, or the song, but the one with the robot in the desert and the futuristic wild west is a good one. recent hit song by one of those bands that kinda sound like most bands.

just so you realize as well, the "well show me something better then" attitude really belongs in the playground. In no way shape or form, on a message board do i feel inclined to provide any sort of "physical justification" for lack of a better word for my opinion on something other than an explanation which i gave, and i even gave the name of the video in my original post as a bonus. I thought i did a pretty good job of explaining why i thought it was boring, in my opinion i thought it was a good job, and its also your opinion that i should provide better, dont state it as fact.

we shot 2 music videos in 1 day. hence the time restraints. It is hard enough shooting 1 in 2 days. Thanks for all of your compliments and critiques.

The other one actually takes off where this left off. I actually favor the look of the second one over the first, and the 2nd song is flippin AWESOME.

And Dobi is a genius, his work speaks for itself. We shot another video on the M2 a week after Big D's was shot. That should be up soon as well. Ill keep you guys posted.

Cynic, the video was "boring" to you because of your personal tastes and bias, the video simply didnt appeal to what you like.... thats fair..... but to others (myself included) the video is very creative (ie: not boring)

to the makers of the video, excellent work.... tons of energy, simple, to the point, effective, loved it.

Now that's funny!!!!! Your idea of an exciting video is SB by Glenn Fry. Welcome to being on the other side of the generation gap. I personally like both story driven video and performance ones and it's a good video for when it was and kind of like a warn pair of khakis. I wouldn't call this previous Ska video boring though. I personally love Ska and wish it was more in vogue, but ohh well.

Also asking if you have something to show isn't schoolyard. It's a reaction to someone who is cynical or critical. A justified comment and one that you should jump on and say YES.. Yes I do. So do ya have anything exciting and if I'm on the schoolyard, maybe I'd have Glenn Fry on my ipod, but only if I was transported back in a time machine to sometime in the 80's otherwise I might get beat up!...

Like the video posts keep 'em coming creative...
