New lens hood for HMC150!

i thought i read somewhere that the bayonet mounting was different on the 2 cameras? does this mean i can mount a century optics mk2 super fisheye with a bayonet mount?

i tried it today, with a dvx and hpx...it works also. but im going to call my friend with a bayonet mount century lens and see if it works.

I'm pretty sure that we can still get those parts new. Call in to the office and ask for Emily. If she's not there, ask for John. Either one will be able to help you out. Tell them that I sent you and that you're looking for the Lens cap and the Lens hood for the DVX100. 1-800-359-1858 or

the bayonet lens mounting is different still. the lens hood doesn't use the complete bayonet mount so thats why it can work on both cameras. many have tried the dvx mk2 on the hmc/hpx and they don't fit.

I could sell this ddvx hood here.. although im on the other side of the world shipping will be expensive.

Is there something I'm missing here? Why would you want the DVX hood over the HMC? I understand the whole "iconic" thing, but that's certainly not enough for me to go out of my way to get a DVX hood. Is it really just the "tupperware" lid that everyone has the problem with? I guess I'll be the black sheep and say that the hood nor the cap bother me at all. I actually think Sony has the best idea going.

I agree with you brad. I don't mind the HMC's lens hood. Just don't like the big cap. I'm thinking Sony's design must be patented.

Yeah, the Sony cap is the best....

I think the DVX throwback concept came from the guy who said it worked better with his stabilizer...as in, with the "pass through" of the DVX hood under wind influence, it was easier to control the shot, whereas with the HMC hood, it just scoops up the airflow.

Well....haha....I guess that could have some influence. Is that what its come to though? Wind tunnel testing? haha I just got done with a video shoot in THE Windy City last weekend out at Navy Pier. While the lens hood might have had some influence on the Glidecam/150 combo, I think the huge size of the body and LCD had more to do with it than anything. Even then, I was able to compensate for most of the bad stuff.

And the hood cap fit in my jeans back pocket just fine. I'm going to stick some white contact paper into the inside of the cap so I will have my white balance with me at all times. That way it will actually serve a dual purpose.

Sony's design is the best, that is pretty much unanimous.

I prefer the DVX hoods octagonal shape. Not only do I like the wind pass thru, but its also easier to do dutch angle rack shots during reception preps. I also like the smaller lens cap that comes along with it.

Brad_C, why you gotta talk sh1t about someone's preference and findings? You like the HMC150's hood design, thats good for you. No reason to be dumb about someone else's. Show a little class.

My issue with the HMC lens hood and cap is you have nothing to protect your lens if you use a mattebox. I use a nikon 72mm lens cap it and the original dvx cap work. Seems silly that they would not ship the camera with a lens cap as well as the protective cover on the lens hood. Still lots of room for dust and crap inside the hood.
My 2 cents....

??? Um, ok. Could you please tell me where I talked #%&*......
If you're referring to the wind tunnel testing comment, lighten up bro. I have plenty of class man, you're overreacting.

Remain calm.

Take a deep breath in.............................................and exhale.

Life is too short to be that uptight.

Have a good night.

Just buy a 72mm lens cap from any camera store and use it with the tupperware. I popped out the middle part of my lens cap, the bit with leica printed on it so now the lens cap fits in easily.
