New JuicedLink DT454 (basically CX231 & DN101 in one!)

ummm...canon just released a firmware update last week for the 7d....holy shi*!

What does that have to do with this topic? Plus, the firmware update does not have features similar to the 5DmkII update (manual audio, etc). It simply addresses some issues the camera had with overheating, as well as a misspelling in the French menu.

I just got my DT454 from B&H. It's surprisingly smaller than the CX231, even though it has the adapter built into it.

I'm pretty excited to use this. It's a much nicer solution than the adapter +the juicedlink.

I just got mine!

I love it, but I seem to be having a problem with the unit.

The headphone jack is giving me some horrible feedback gain until I first start recording. Once I hit record for the first time, the noise in the headphone jack is gone.

Also, the noise starts up again when I turn off the camera.

I have it set to AGC NOISE disable mode.

Hope someone can help.
I really love this thing; can't recommend it enough! But that noise issue in the headphones is really going to bother me.

If the audio "AGC" problem with the Canon camera's is similar to the Panasonic GH1 then all you need is a $20 adjustable attenuator XLR adapter to add to your existing audio gear/mixer. After doing some of my own tests I concluded that the GH1 has an extremely sensitive mic input and by simply reducing that input level down enough it fixed the "AGC" problem.

Listening to the Canon audio on that YouTube demo video for the new JuicedLink mixer, it sounds similar to what the GH1 "AGC" is doing also. I wouldn't be surprised if that is all they are doing with the new JuicedLink mixer is attenuating the output when the "Turn on DT454 AGC Disable" option is used. Actually, looking at their website I guess they are still injecting a sound to one channel to disable the "AGC" on the other channel. With attenuator adapters, you can still have 2 channels to record on.

I already have a decent portable audio mixer so I don't want to have to spend over $400 on a new one with less features so using XLR attenuator adapters solves this.

Here is a link to that thread where I discussed my results:
