New iPods

I'm loving that Ipod Touch. Currently I use my ipod to show clients and people my demo's on the go but with the ipod touch it would be so much easier

I like the ipod I have now because I can hit the buttons through the pocket rather easy. Dont even have to look at it.

does anyone know the name of the second to last song when he is doing the ringtone demo? i know it's a famous (oldies?) song but can't think of the name

um...does the apple site say iPod touch is available in 8 and 16gig models????

Didn't I have a 60gig iPod a while back???

Mark, the Touch is all flash memory which is much smaller & more expensive than standard HDDs

they'll start getting bigger again.

They still have the iPod classic, in 80 and 160gb configurations.

Ipod touch has a bunch of other feature like webbrowsing, so i guess that's why it has less gb's.

I guess so, but the whole benefit of the iPod is being able to put a LOT of stuff on it. I would NEVER buy one of these at 16 gigs. Seems like an odd choice on their part, even if it meant losing money on the outset. Web browsing and touch screen wouldn't sell it for me. I've had that on my palm for years. I guess it's the old ones for me!!! :)

Then again, I guess it's not an odd choice, because all of the jack-asses who buy a 16 gig will buy a 30 gig in a year anyway...:)

I had always wished they would make the iPod MORE rugged, not less. The flash is a step in the right direction, but it looks pretty easy to destroy.

Not everyone needs to carry their whole music library on them all the time. The Nano was in 4gb and 8gb configurations, it was small and practical. (and flash card based!)
The iPhone and iPod Touch are both flash card based too.
And think of it this way, at least you have a choice!

They have the shuffle, Nano, classic ipod (lots of gb's, but harddrive based), and iPod Touch. A few years ago there was only one type of iPod.

$100 store credit to all of the early adopters/suckers who bought it at $599 (cough..me...cough)

That's probably a good move on Steve's/Apple's part. Mac fans are kind of whiny to begin with and the price drop had a very vocal number wailing and gnashing their teeth. I'm a Mac fan, just sayin'...

Nice, so it looks like that $100 rebate is for those who bought the 4gb and 8gb models.

smart move. appeases the angry, it's a nice peace offering, and keeps the money in the apple store.

Better yet, American Express has decided to extend their normal purchase protection which only covers damage, loss and theft for the first 90 days to also cover price protection. The specifics depend on your account. For a long time Platinum holder in good standing, it can be the $200 plus tax credited within one to two days. For others, it can take a week. One corporate card holder said they wouldn't extend it to him. You have to know your date of purchase and the store you bought it from so it helps to have your receipt but the actual receipt is not necessary. The reps are all organized for this, so it's painless and if you bought more than one iphone, they will still do it.

It appears that Apple will not offer the $100 credit if you have received any other kind of rebate but $200 + tax on your AE is the best yet. Ask for purchase protection and AE will transfer you to a separate division which is in the states. You want to speak to the division that is all set up for it and knows exactly what to do. If you're talking to someone who is unsure, you're not at the right place yet.

Jared, they did stop their price protection plan I believe (last year). This was a special courtesy they decided to extend. They stressed that normally they don't do price matching anymore but they felt Apple really scr*wed us (my words) and they had thousands of calls, so they decided as a company to cover it as an exception.

American Express Return Protection line (1-800-297-8019) This is the number to call if you have an AE card and you bought the Iphone (but not within the last 2 weeks, Apple will reimburse those people the $200+). Not sure if it works for all colors of cards.

But yes, the AE Plat has been well worth the high fees over the years (I don't know what they're running now). Airline tickets come with insurance, they have a concierge service that pretty much guarantees you a table at a restaurant even a day or two ahead, special advance purchase for hot concerts. They have various airline ticket deals that sometimes are worth it (2 for 1 domestic is usually a good deal, the 2 for 1 international sometimes is and sometimes is a joke - depends on the airlines). And the member rewards are very very flexible for applying your points to member airlines. Unlike many cards, you can just transfer points into your ff program account without it having to be a specific amount for an award. I've used it many times to upgrade or to get just a ff business class ticket.

(like the TinTin pic, btw)

Oh, gotcha. Well, that's good of them to extend the offer. Always nice when a big company makes an appearance of "caring" about the customer - as AE is doing or Apple with the $100 credit.

Those other AE perks are pretty neat, too...

(It doesn't get any cooler than Tintin :))

just installed a voice recorder, ichat and an nes emulator to my iphone. very cool. figured out how to get custom ringtones for free, now this thing is bangin'

I have 40gb's worth of music and I can tell you that I rarely listen to all of the songs. for the most part I tend to listen to the same albums for a little bit then switch to other albums.

I'm the same way but I could never make the decision to "neglect" some of my music and not carry it with me.
