New iPods

Finally, a touchscreen iPod (and no AT&T contract). The iPod Touch looks pretty nice--the iPhone without the phone, but it does have WiFi--woohoo. And iPhones are $200 less, the early adopters tax has been dropped. :) Time to retire my 3G, I think.

I actually think the new nano videos are super cool. glad to see that people can have a video device for $150. I'm looking towards the touch myself though. I was hoping they would do this - woo hoo!

Apple is in full battle mode for the xmas season. I think they have a very well thought out product line. Shuffles, for mini-presents, small and inexpensive video Nanos, mega-storage iPod classics for the "I've got 10,000 CD's" crowd, and the Touch for people who want the iPhone with more storage and without the phone contract.

sucks that we spent $200 more, but it always happens to early adopters. my gf bought me one for my birthday which I didn't *really* want cos I've seen this happen to early adopters all the time. but her work bought her one (her bosses are early adpters and rich enough that they don't care) and then it came to me. but it is what it is, though I didn't show it off a lot, i still enjoy it a lot

i just want a junk mail filter for mail.app

Well, I dropped $500 on my 30GB 3G iPod, so I know where you're coming from. Hope my 8 year old enjoys it when I upgrade.

in 2002 when i made the pc to mac switch and fell in love with macs, i almost took out a low interest student loan to buy some apple stock but didn't. damn!

Not that I would ever recommend taking out a loan to buy stock...but...Ouch.
That one has got to sting.

I have been wanting to get a bigger iPod for a while as my 30gb video just doesn't have the battery life I need or the storage I need. In fact, the 120gb external drive that houses my itunes library is about a month away from not having enough space either.... These look very very cool.

yeah, i couldn't bring myself to borrow money to invest. Felt too "irresponsible." but had I borrowed ten grand, i'd now have over twenty grand!

Whatever happened to the potential legal trouble Steve Jobs was facing? I truly think the Justice Department (or ftc or sec or whomever) said, "screw it! This guy is too important to the US economy."

I can one better you, I was on set shortly after Jobs came back to apple, a sound man and I were talking about stocks. He asked what I liked I told him apple at 11 bucks a share can only go up. He made a call, told me he bought 5000 worth. Todays market value is over 63 000. Ouch, not even a Christmas card in return.

16 GB is the minimum I'd consider. The one think that seems to be missing is the 16 GB iPhone. Maybe they'll release it for the holidays.

The new iPOD form factor is sexy as hell. I love it. I have the 30 gig video ipod but that danged wheel drives me batty. So, this might be cool. Hopefully its more functional....

Of course, I probably shouldn't be trying to scroll the wheel to load a song while I'm driving....but hey....it happens...

I like the earlier generation iPods, because you can load them with Rockbox.

I refuse to use iTunes, due to it's use of DRM. Not to mention that there isn't a version for GNU/Linux.

With Rockbox, you can move files over to your player via Universal Mass Storage on any OS, no special utility needed. Plus it allows your player to support Free file formats that aren't encumbered by patents, such as Ogg Vorbis or the lossless FLAC format.

Once Rockbox is ported to the new iPods (which I'm sure will happen sooner or later), then I might be interested.
