New inexpensive Sony, 1920x1080 60p • 24Mbps

Is there no difference in video between the HX9v and the HX100v? The 100 has a crazy zoom on it.

Photographyblog just posted a review. It´s a shame the stills capabilities are so flawed. The video does look excellent . Anyway, he gave it 5 stars , which is unbelievable considering he´s only reviewing the photography capabilities, esp. when you look at the samples. Seems people are more impressed by the bells and whistles than by the quality of the files. I´d love to see a 8 or 10mp version. And while I´ve been looking for a new compact, the one that shines the best at the moment , IMHO, because I want a true hybrid, is the canon elph 500hs- clean files up to iso 400, 1080/24p, 720/30p, 24mm f2.0 lens, and touch screen . I do like the 41mp sweep panorama files from the hx9v though !

We´re getting closer but still no potato.

I was looking VERY close at the 500hs. The reason I *didn't* get it....is because I have the S95. The only thing the S95 lacks is ~1080~ 24P. That said, the combination of the S95 and the HX9V is a winning combo. I may be wrong....but I think the 500hs lacks RAW photo? It's also NOT a superzoom. (Not that YOU want that feature Kurth...but I was looking for this feature.)

I can easily carry both in my pocket...and it's more "pocket cinematography" than I every could have imagined.

The two things that the HX9v had that were a "big deal" for me...
1. 1080 - 60P
2. Super-zoom with SOLID IS.

Some bonuses for me are.
1. INCREDIBLE sharpness in video mode. I think this cam will become a "legend" in it's category...I'm FLOORED with what I see so far.
2. Good dynamic range. (FOR IT'S CLASS) It's NOT in the category of a DSLR....but it's better than the competition (from what I see so far).

I MUST say Kurth....I'm looking for the "perfect" hybrid compact too. Unfortunately we aren't there yet....but we are getting DANGEROUSLY close.

In my mind....this is what I FANTASIZE from a compact.
1. Larger sensor. I'm NOT a DOF junkie....but it would be nice to CHOOSE deep or shallow.
2. 60P *and* 24P (1080) in the SAME camera
3. F2.0 *and* 16x optical zoom....(HX9V is F3.3)
4. Full manual control in video mode...(LX5 has this feature already)

All of that said.....the HX9V may well need it's own category here on DVXUser. (Compacts at least)....The S95, LX5, and HX9V are pretty impressive cameras. MOST IMPORTANTLY they beat EVERY camera on the market in one area: They are always with me in my glove box and are the ONLY cam available MANY times because I don't dare lug my DSLR or shoulder mount DVCAM (lol) with me everywhere I go. The S95 and HV9V will literally go everywhere I go....and I can already see some incredible footy is well on its way into my personal archive. :)

Mad love to DVXUsers everywhere!

Geez! What an INCREDIBLE little camera. I cannot believe the power in my pocket at this stage! Amazing little camera. NOT PERFECT....low light situations (when I'm not near my other cams)....it will be the S95 FOR SURE....but other than that....this is shaping up to be pretty special indeed.

CHECK THIS OUT:

HDMI OUT (LIVE) WHEN THE CAM IS ON. NOT when it's recording unfortunately....BUT, you can turn off all of the "options" and it displays it PERFECTLY CLEAN (It is AT LEAST 720P). I was watching it on my 50inch 720P Plasma and it was PERFECT. I don't know anything about external recorders (and that would never be my purpose)....but, isn't there a way to "catch" the stream via HDMI with a recorder even if it isn't recording to the internal card?

I suspect that this deserves it's own thread....I'll start one....not sure where to put it, but I'll start here in News and see where the mods put it? Anywho...

....but HHL, by the time you´re carrying the Hx9v, the s95, and maybe the LX5, you could be easily carrying a gh2. Even just carrying two compacts equals carrying one gh . That said, you know I´m searching for the grail, like everyone else. Many times I walk out the door and don´t want something slinging on my shoulder. But photography is at least , or more so than video, as important for me . I make alot more money selling photos than dvds. The still files , and I´ve looked closely at maybe 50, are just trash coming out of the sony, if one expects to do any printing. And I can easily print 16x20 files from my fuji f31, and probably the 500hs as well, from what I´ve seen thus far. That said, new powershots are supposivley coming this August, so I´ll wait and see what the new round holds. I would jump on a canon s100 if it had 1080 and powerzoom, both being reasonable expectations.

LX5's going up for sale. :)
S95 in glove box.
Hx9v in my pocket.

:)

Points well taken Kurth. Cheers!!

have the GH2, the GF13 and yet the HX9v Cam filmed for an additional spontaneous. The HX9V is awesome . . .

I just got mine. Pretty cool. Has anyone been able to bring this footage into Final Cut?

I can't seem to get my video files recognized by final cut or Sony's personal media program. Did you figure how to get it to work?

Edit: I've also tried in iMovie and it says that it cannot handle the footage (there is a red circle with a line through it). However, I've never used the newer versions of iMovie so I may be doing something wrong.

Edit #2: I've also tried XDCAM transfer and it does not recognize the card.

I brought the files into Premiere CS5. I hate Premiere and hopefully FCP X will solve these issues.
