I just posted my newest Indie Film Tech Tip. This new installment is called Lighting Units and lays out the basics of lights you may be using. It's an overview and doesn't cover every light out there, but talks about open face lights, fresnals, power useage, etc... It runs just under 4 min. and is in Windows Media format.

Go to the Filmmaking Page to see it.

While you're there you can check the other tips:
Gels & Diffusion
China Lanterns
Grip Kit Goodies

These are just little things I put together when I'm bored. I think their helpful for beginners.

Re: New Indie Film Tech Tip: Lighting Units

Thanks to all. I come from a long line of teachers, so some of the teaching gene has rubbed off. That's why I share these tips.

Warmstepvision,

Yes, I do fluorescent work. I love them because they use less power and don't put off a lot of heat than standard lights. I just with the units were cheaper. I plan on building some of the homemade units that Jared shows off on this board.

P.S. For those of you who shoot film, I just put up an article on how to deal with a colorist in a telecine session on my site on the Filmmaking Page.
