Panasonic AG DVX 100a This camera was fine on old G5

FCP can't see camera yes it is attached via firewire, and switched to VCR mode - have tried brand new fire wire - turned everything off and on again, trashed QT reciepts and downloaded QT 7.4.5

iMac system profiler is "Unable to list FireWire devices."

Apple tech support said "Gee, I don't know. Ring Panasonic to see if that camera is compatible w Macs"

Turns out it is a DVX problem - iMac recognised other camera....
I've never had this issue before and am stumped - is there a very basic setting somewhere which i may have switched?

Was the camera and computer turned on the first time you hooked them up together?

You may have a fried firewire port on your camera since the computer will pair with other gear.

I ususally always make sure it's unplugged but I may have restarted with it attached.

Fried firewire port sounds serious - is it repairabe?
