New iMac, new Quicktime = crappier export options...help!

I just bought a new iMac and installed FCP 7 on it. I used to be able to open a movie file in Quicktime, and then go to the file menu and export as any other type of movie I wanted and I could tweak the output for vimeo or youtube or whateva. This seems to have vanished with my new computer.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

I wouldn't say "any type" but Quicktime Pro version 7.6.4 does allow several formats to be exported. I'm using FCP 6.06 on a PPC Mac and 7.6.4 is the latest QT version for that. I think FCP 7 installs a different version of QT Pro but you could probably call Apple and see if those export options were changed.

So I think if you click on quicktime conversion, you can choose many different ways of exporting.

Also, from the Share Option, you can upload directly to youtube from the timeline and have it export it as the best quality possible for you.

Sounds Like you are used to using the Quicktime Pro Application for exporting your videos as opposed to exporting directly within FCP. As others have stated you can export from FCP using quicktime conversion or choose export/share/ send to compressor. Quicktime X included with snow leopard does not have the export options that Quicktime 7 Pro did. If you would like to revert back to quicktime 7 here is a link for you with instructions. Good Luck.

If you installed QuickTime 7, which is an option for the Snow Leopard installer disc, it will be in your Applications/Utilities folder and available for exports.

Check there.

If not, simply mount the OS installer for the iMac, and use the additional or custom installs to install QT 7.

Remember that you must open the QT files in the QT 7 app to export as you wish. I keep it in the dock.
