New HVX200 User

Shoot, I'm pretty much a new DV user! We just tried our first shoot with the HVX200 (not DVX) and it went well overall. Don't know all the bells and whistles yet.

I'm looking for some advice and the best way to adjust exposure. I set up a shot around 4 pm, bright sun behind/top-left of subject (person), Arri key light (1200) and reflected sunlight for fill.

Overall, the subject looked nice, however, there was some signage with white lettering next to her that seemed slightly overexposed. Since these areas had a slight bloom effect, I can't just fix it later in Final Cut. Generally speaking, which is the better quality way to go to adjust those whites down at shoot time - Iris or messing with the other settings like shutter speed?

Thanks for any tips.

A net could be used to adjust the balance of light on the sign.. You might have been able to use a scrim on your 1200 to adjust the light as well.. It all has to do with positioning. You could have also added some more light to the subject, and closed down your iris as well..

But if your exposure was perfect on the subjects face, then anything you do with exposure or settings will change everything, not just the sign in the background.

Hope that helps..

if it was the sun that was the problem, you could of used a graduated filter (nd maybe?) and cut down the sight intensity of the sun. If it was the face, a scrim or diffusion filter would work just as well. But from what it sounds like, you did a nice job. I would like to see some footage if you dont mind. Send me a PM or something. Thanks.
