New HVX200 Owner - Just a few questions!

I'm happy to have found this community!

I just got an HVX-200 and have a few questions for you more experienced HVX users. I searched the forums and learned a ton of invaluable things, so these are just a few random thoughts.

[1] I'm using an HVX-200 with over 1,100 hours of use (the previous owner had the camera on non-stop for a shoot in New Zealand to detect nature motion). What kind of troubles will I encounter with such tedious amounts of usage? I'm told the camera was mounted and untouched for a majority of those hours.

[2] I just upgraded to firmware 4.10-00-0.00 from 4.06-00-0.00. Will I notice a difference, or did they only fix 2 bugs as in the release notes? I am not familiar with any upgrades in between these versions.

[3] Have you guys built custom 35mm DOF adapters for your cameras? Is this as simple as ordering the parts and assembling based on the advice of http://www.jetsetmodels.info and similar websites? Seems like everybody knows how to do it, but I can't find too many HVX-200 success stories.

[4] Any non-stickie epic threads worth reading through? (Camera info, funny HVX stories, anything)

[5] Is anyone from the SF Bay Area?

I think that covers everything. Happy St Patricks Day!

Welcome to the forum. I encourage you to really take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that is stored in the forum's archives. What's contained here will help you avoid many of the pitfalls others have experienced.

1. If it was shot to P2 the hours really won't be an issue. No real moving parts to worry about.

2. Shouldn't notice much of an operational difference

3. Not me.

4. Search for scene file settings, low light, frame rate hack, workflow and since you are interested in a 35mm adaptor- search for that as well.

5. Savannah- long way away.

Good luck with your HVX. I've had mine since 2006 and have loved it. It's paid for itself many, many times over with great images and a rock solid workflow.

Thanks Jim.

This place is great! I've read about 5 novels worth of posts already. The low-light search has yielded some very cool results as well, thanks for that.

I wish you all the best with your future HVX endeavors!

Like Jim say. No sweat.
I have a HVX200 Received in Jan 2006 one of the first to arrive. it has about the same amount of time. Still performing great. I have had issues but my fault. I also have a HPX170 and HPX2000. The 200 is still my fav.:violin:

I would suggest Barry Green's Book. The bible for HVX200/HPX170. Don't leave home without it.

That's such a relief, as this must be a pretty rock solid camera. I know I'm about 4 years late to the scene, but the wealth of knowledge here is just incredible!

From now on, I'm buying cameras 4 years after their release. :)

Like Jim said. Lots of information on this site. Do a search, if you cannot find it. ask here. There are some here who get there dick stuck out about newbees asking?
Shucks I remember when they did the same.

Thanks Mule

I'm also gonna check out Barry Green's book as you mentioned above.

I would go for a Canon D5, but I do a lot of live event videography that requires XLR mic inputs (without making my sound guy angry). Perhaps a D5 in the front row of a concert with a steadycam would add for a nice effect.

See you around.
